Hello all ....... !
« on: September 02, 2015, 01:53:37 AM »

Newbie here -

I'm an old fart (72) with an embarassingly long list of ICE bikes in my history.  I've recently agreed to buy a 2011 Zero S (not here yet!) ...... hope it will be fun and not a headache!

I've been lurking on the Forum for awhile, so I've stared down into some of the pitfalls that have befallen some "early adopters".  I'm a retired engineer (film visual FX) with a lot of experience with servo systems and electronics in general.  I hope what I've managed to learn from you all has helped me find a suitable "starter bike" ...... we'll see, eh?

Welcome! I'm a 2013 DS owner in Oakland. If you have any of those ICE bikes left, you may have to resist trading them in for a newer Zero. ;) Seriously, have fun with it.

Best of luck with it, as I'm sure you've gleaned by lurking in here, the pre 13 bikes can be harder to maintain, but it sounds like your the chap for the job.

Anything interesting FX wise? I have a couple people I know in the film and TV FX biz over here in the UK.

Thanks, Justin -

Yeah, I'm prepared mentally for some future troubles (I think!), but I do have some knowledge and expertise with high voltage/current motor systems.  Wish I could justify spending more than twice what I did ..... for a '13 or newer ...... but I need to get started.  Been wanting to get into an electric scoot for many years.

I worked for ILM / Lucasfilm for 23+ years - first show was Empire Strikes Back, last was Star Wars prequel II ...... with dozens of cool shows in between!  I spent a lot of time in the UK, including 3 months (in the winter, of course!) on 101 Dalmatians at Shepperton Studios.  Got to live in Richmond ..... now, that was cool!
