So far from what I've been told it is bike for bike 1 for 1

Flexy I would try to trade them in, maybe they would do something "above and beyond" I mean 27k is no joke.....

I guess this mean Zero will stop supporting any 2012 and before model. Oh well, I just sold my 2011 XU a couple months ago, I guess that would be either trade-in for a new zero bike, which I still have to pay another $10K, or it will be sit at home with a anytime soon to be a dead battery... (I heard the 2011 use molicel and it is about to go down really fast after 3 or 4 years of used)

According to my dealer, they will only take a trade in on the MSRP of the 2014 models, which as you know are a thousand dollars more than the 2015 models. He says that the FX is not included either. That makes the deal a fair amount less attractive, as you can take $1000 off the trade in value right away. He says that the demo models are definitely not included either. Let me know if anyone else gets any different information, as he was only reading off the memo that Zero sent.

I am sure that zero is offering less than half the original cost of the bikes , not because they give a hoot about all the people they ripped off, but because they want to do something that will cost them less before the class action lawsuit that is pretty much inevitable at this point. the only way i would take part in this offer is if they give me the credit for both the new bikes i bought , to the tune of over 27g. otherwise i will wait for the lawsuit.

They are offering more than the market value of the bike which seems pretty reasonable to me.  Would you mind explaining the details of your class action suit because unless US law differs dramatically to Jersey law, Zero has no legal responsibility for the residual value of their products nor could they be expected to have any control over it.

Don't feel too bad, we paid $9K to $18K, getting back a reasonable return.
People that bought 2013 Nissan Leaf for over $30K can only expect $10k ~ $15K.
2011, and 2012, cost even more, and, returning even less.
Just for grins, I took my 2014 Ford Focus Electric with 4K miles on it to CarMax
to see what they would offer. $13K. List on it was $39K. I got it NEW for a little
over half list, but, would still take a hit. They don't call it the "Bleeding Edge"
for nothing. I have thrown away tens of thousands of dollars worth of computer
equipment because I ran out of doors to hold open with it. Plus, a fair number
of owners also got to take advantage of tax credits which helped lower initial
investment

I don't see any language in the offer limiting the deal to the original purchaser.

2014 S/DS ZF8.5 $13k
2014 S/DS ZF11.4 $15k
2014 SR ZF11.4 $17k

Add $2500 for the Power Tank.

If the rebates are off of MSRP then I think the deal is not quite as good; the 2015s have significant upgrades and are a little cheaper, and without the subsidy a new 2014 would sell for significantly below MSRP. (Look at Brammo's continued fire sale to clear out 2014 inventory as an example).

I don't think it's off MSRP. If it happens, I will pay 6000 euros to upgrade to an SR from my 2012 S ZF9. A 2015 SR is 18k euros so I doubt they are valuing my knackered old S at over 12k.

I agree with this.   I was excited about the deal when I first heard about it, as I have a non-working 2010 DS (in addition to ademo 2014). However, my dealer did say that the only way to use the rebate is to buy a new 2014 at the MSRP. When you consider that the 2015's cost $1000 less, have abs and better forks, and better range, that eats into the $5,000 pretty significantly. I think it is more of Zero's way of getting those older bikes off the street, and trying to sell a lot of 2014 inventory that they would otherwise have to discount as much or more than they are doing with this offer.

what's going to happen when the 2014's start breaking down? remember the battery packs on the 2010's were supposed to last 100'000 miles. Why should we believe the newer models are any better just because they cost more?

That's not how quality control and quality assurance work. Zero stopped making unique construction per model year, fixed production line issue tracking, and that's why reliability is higher. It's not at a fully mature level, but it's way better. My 2013 DS is a reliable machine compared to any ICE motorcycle.

Also, the bulk of the reason they cost more is that the battery packs are larger, which has very little to do with quality per se. Reducing overhead by standardizing the production line and structural builds made room for those batterie packs to expand, anyway.

The cells used for the 2012+ bikes are rated for thousands of cycles, where the Molicel cells used in the 2010 bikes are rated for a few hundred cycles. Anyone's guess what that means for calendar aging; we'll know in a few years, but Zero is offering a much longer warranty for the 2014+ MY bikes that should give some amount of assurance.

I received a form in the US mail today from Zero. It's titled: "Zero Early Adopter Upgrade - Trade In Voucher". So that tells me that they are just offering this to original buyers of the 2010, 2011, & 2012 bikes.

The form to fill out has the trade-in bike info and the 2014 bike purchased info (VIN's & Models). The trade-in blanks are listing models S, DS, X, & XU.

I received the same letter yesterday, too. I guess everyone who originally bought a 2012 or earlier Zero is getting the letter.  However, as it turns out, I am happy with my 2014 S and my 2012 S is now owned by my daughter.  I'll pass the letter on to her, but since her bike is running just fine and she doesn't need another motorcycle, I doubt she will take them up on the offer.
