Ok,  I'm confused.  I thought all tax incentives for electric motorcycles ended a few years back.  Does the 2014 demo i just bought entitle me to a tax rebate this year?

I don't know about the electric motorcycle purchase tax credit for this fiscal year, but I received a $2000 tax credit for the February 2014 purchase of my 2014 Zero on my 2014 tax return filed this year. The tax credit is based upon the date when the vehicle purchased was registered for road use by the purchaser.

Regarding a tax credit purchase for this year, you will likely have to wait until after the Congressional elections to find out what is going to happen. Then Congress will tackle the budget for this next year and will determine when they approve the budget bill what tax credits will be approved for this fiscal year.  The bottom line is that you will never know if you will be getting at tax credit until after you made the purchase unless you make the purchase in late December after the law has been passed and signed by the President.   :(

2014 FX 5.7s may be available on a dealer by dealer basis. Check with your local dealer.

Harlan did tell me that he might be able to locate one (2014 FX) when I asked. But I decided on the DS since I already have a 2013 FX so he didn't proceed with that.

Makes sense that they first want to clear out their warehouses before they start selling the demos.

The MX bikes were available as a street-legal model for one year only, 2011 .. though I believe in earlier years you could obtain a kit (lights & horn) to convert a X or MX to street legal status. In 2011 the X similarly was available in both street-legal and offroad trim, and in 2012 the X was available in street-legal trim only and the MX was available in off-road trim only.

The FX meanwhile has always been street-legal.

Richard,
Did you ever get proof that the federal tax credit was officially extended (past Dec 31, 2013), or is this based off information that one accountant verbally told you?

Unfortunately I don't believe that is true.....

My understanding is

The 2012 mx is off road only, and most were sold holding a mso or off road title...
2012 x and xu are on-road

The 2011 mx is off-road only
The 2011 mxd is on road
The 2011 x is also on road

I was re reading as we wrote and got confused yes same thing lol!!

Mxd is a hidden name in there, the majority of my bikes have been these older x, mx', mxd,s.  They all were basically sold the same way and could become street legal, as zero got bigger they need to start proving what frames were and weren't allowed on the street. It's funny to me because I've had many earlier than 2012s and the 09s 10s were funny loop holes in most dmv laws and none of the non street legal zeros are technically suppose to become street legal but because they arnt like a major motorcycle manufacturer they didn't stamp the frames with not for roadway use on them...

I should have more info in the next few days about what's going on with a deal for me

Hopefully it doesn't take too lonbim sure if there are any fx'a for trade they will be the first to go.

so according to the form i see, they will give 5g for a 2010ds, and 8000 for a 2012ds. I bought both of these new, to the tune of 27g for both bikes. I still owe about 3g on the 2012. so i would get 13g for both bikes toward a 2014. aren't they 19g? so i would owe another 6g, for another bike? I would rather save that and buy a bmw, or wait for the class action lawsuit.
