Zero SR speed tests?
« on: August 15, 2015, 08:27:31 PM »

Just curious if anyone has done any 0-60 runs on the SR to see what they can actually get.  I would be interested to see any 1/8 or even 1/4 mile runs although I know it will be topped out long before the 1/4 mile ends, I would still be interested to know how long before and still what the time was.  Also has anyone with the (more torque) sprocket tested any of these as well that would be really interesting?  If you are doing any 0-60 tests what are you using to determin these times?  I know some people just use a camera, I have tried to find a good app on my phone but haven't found one yet.

Is this on an SR?  Also I see the screen shot of the app but I'm not sure what app it is.

Your times are useless without giving your weight. You will notice that the 20kg powertank takes the SR from 3.3 to 3.9 for 0 -60 m/hr.
If the official 0-60 time is by a 60kg rider, does that make the result invalid? if you weight 80kg then expect YOUR times to be slower. I don't know how many times I read articles about acceleration test that are slower than the official sales material, and then discredit the times. Everyones times will be different. So what is the point to do it?????

I would be interested in some mid-range acceleration numbers, that's where the SR feels the quickest to me. I have done several 30 to 70 mph runs and I know it's somewhere in the 3+ second range which is very good (I weigh about 150 pounds). I know that my numbers aren't completely accurate but I'm too cheap to buy some kind of measuring instrument.  ;D

I do agree we need more info on these tests.  What is the motor temp, are you on flat ground, what is your state of charge, power tank or not, rider and load weight.  I do agree the SR is insanely quick from 40-70mph.  Maybe more so than some 1000 or 1300 sport bikes.

That app must be wrong.  There is no way the SR does a quarter mile in 20 seconds when a 2013 S does it in less than 13.

I hope to have an SR in the near future and if I do, I will borrow a V-Box or similar and do some runs.

Look at the speeds. The operator must have rolled off just after 330 feet; the speed dropped after that. I'm guessing he just wanted to see the 0-100 kph time.

Makes sense but I do doubt the accuracy of those apps as I don't think phone GPS's update faster than 1hz which is hopeless.  I think they interpolate and fill in the blanks with accelerometer data.  If someone can borrow a VBox or similar that would be the way to go.

When I was racing, ( Long Long ago, in a galaxy far far away ), I had a stand alone Accelerometer for doing street testing
when not at the track. It gave most of the information that one looks for, zero to 30, 60, 100, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, Launch G Force,
braking, etc. The company was G Tech Pro, and, it was between $100 and $200. I just looked, and, they are still in business.
The meters now start at $199. Back then, if I ran it at the track, and, compared it to the time slip, it was fairly consistent.
I can't imagine that they have gotten any less so over the years. Here is their site, in case anyone is interested. It does
require a 12 Volt power source.

http://www.gtechpro.com/index.html

Otherwise, most cities have a drag strip nearby and they have test and tune nights, Midnight Madness, etc. for $50 or less.

Phone apps are cheap to free, but, not as accurate.

Speed costs money, How fast can you afford to go.

I don't know about this particular app, but I expect an app like this will *not* use GPS (at least not for 0-60 times, it might for long-distance tests). It will use the accelerometers that many smart phones and tablets have built in them, and these can be fairly accurate (or not).

So I suppose we should also be asking how the app measures acceleration and whether the device on which it was installed has accelerometers and how accurate they are ;)

Another way to measure is to use a GoPro or a dash cam with a time stamp and shoot your speedometer. Assuming the speedometer on the Zero updates correctly (i.e., does not lag significantly and is not totally off the actual speed of the bike), just review the footage and see how long it took to accelerate.

Makes sense but I do doubt the accuracy of those apps as I don't think phone GPS's update faster than 1hz which is hopeless.  I think they interpolate and fill in the blanks with accelerometer data.  If someone can borrow a VBox or similar that would be the way to go.

I've tried a similar app called Car Performance, and typically get 0-60 times around 4.0 sec. 2015 SR with no power tank.
That's on a flat road, temperature in the 70's, and I weigh 165lb.
