Phone mount
« on: July 25, 2015, 03:57:59 AM »

Has anyone bought another phone mount for their bike that would work with a 2014 DS? Id like to have mine mounted and there are several on ebay that are cheaper and easier to get than going through the dealer. ..

Zero's phone mount is just a universal RAM Mount configuration. It isn't cheap ($70), but it is sturdy and usable and some motorcycle dealers carry RAM so you can check them out in person.

I browsed quickly through EBay listings for motorcycle phone holders, and would rate those as sturdy enough for bicycles. I have not seen these brands at motorcycle shops.

Does this one seem like it?  It's  $45 on ebay:

The RAM-B-149Z-UN7 Universal X-Grip Cell Phone Motorcycle RAM Mount is a Marine Grade Aluminum Mount with a Zinc Coated U-Bolt Rail Base and RAM Universal X-Grip Cradle. The mount is designed with a RAM 1 inch diameter patented rubber ball and socket system that has adjustment point at the cradle and base. With a twist of the arm knob, you can move the Universal X-Grip mount to your optimum viewing position.

Yes, it's the X-Grip, plus the arm and the handlebar mount.

I use the Tigra Bike Console. This works great. It also protects the iPhone against rain.

I bought this mount - I believe it is actually made for a bicycle - for about $10. I used it for a few years on my 2012 Zero - now it sits on my 2015 SR.

My iPhone 6 just fits inside (without the phone case).

Since I have a KURYAKYN ( http://www.kuryakyn.com/products/931/handlebar-accessory-mounts ) Phone Mount on my TRIUMPH  and  my HARLEY, I decided to get one for my 2014 ZERO S zf11.4.  Handlebars are a bit crowded since I have an aftermarket ( http://www.nationalcycle.com ) windshield adapted to my Z-bike.  But, it seems to work OK.  I use the phone for my ZERO APP, and a phone accelerometer app from http://www.vernier.com.  See the pix below.  I do have problems from time to time with my ZERO APP either flat out quitting or giving me squirrely - squidgy readings even after a reset.  Any Ideas ?  THANK YOU :)

How do you like the windscreen? Which model did you get? How tall are you, and where does the windstream go?

I use this Tigra phone mount on my FX. Works great and is dust & water proof.

I just wanted to chime in on this subject. Be careful with any of the mounts that squeezes the phone in place like the RAM mount below. I lost my $500 Samsung Note 3 when I hit a large pot hole and the next thing I knew my bluetooth music stopped playing..... I looked down and my phone was gone. Lost to the highway and crushed by many other cars. I went back and never could find it with all the heavy traffic.

I have insurance on my phone that covers EVERYTHING like being dropped from 20,000 ft when I'm skydiving or the phone goes down when it is jerked out of its cradle on a bumpy road.  With regular backing up of phone data you only loose a bit of coin each month.  It is worth it to me though !

I too have dropped my phone, a Galaxy Note 2, off of my RAM X-Grip when I rode over some uneven pavement on the highway. Insuring it like Ron Sindric did would be a good way to go. Maybe a tether would be nice, but that eliminates the convenience that I wanted with the mount. I now use a fully enclosed case if not in my jacket pocket.

I use a cheapo bicycle phone pouch, that zips up (no risk of losing the phone) AND it has room for a Qi charger to keep the phone charged up!

Phone does get kind of warm in there...   8)

I use the same cheap phone pouch and my phone also overheats sometimes. But only when it's very hot outside. 25+ Celcius (which rarely happens here [emoji25])
