Riding a 2012 Zero S to Patagonia.
« on: May 02, 2015, 03:20:19 PM »

Tom Tomczyk is riding his 2012 Zero S from Philadelphia to Patagonia. Looks like he is just using L1 charging to.

I just saw that too! It looks like he's using the onboard charger and one Delta-Q.  Looking forward to seeing how he charges once he gets outside of the US. I think he's in Texas now.

Level 1 charging is one way to get to know the local population and culture.   ;)

I've mentioned this before on this forum: It's like the old Stanley Steamer days. The drivers got to know a lot of people along the way because those cars didn't condense and recycle the steam water, so the driver would carry a bucket. When the car got low on water, a frequent occurrence, the driver would pull up to a house and ask to get water for the boiler.

Here we are again, with our electric "Steamers".

BTW - In California right now it would probably be easier to get electricity than water. :D

Thanks for posting that link. It'll be fun to check his progress.

My wife's friends just finished a 19,903 mile bicycle ride from the USA to Argentina. They blogged about their journey here. Took them 710 days.

Going slow is definitely a great way to travel!  On the Tide the Future Tour we stopped every 100 miles while going cross country.  Many adventures were had and new friends were met!

Anyone know what's going on with this?  He was posting regularly though Aug 21, then silence.   Hope he's OK.

I hope he didn't run into trouble in Colombia.  A moderator on the BMW forum that I frequent, who lives in the Netherlands, told us that his sister was killed last week by pirates that boarded their sailboat off the coast of that country. The Colombia police then threw his brother-in-law, who was also on the sailboat, into jail.  He has now been released, but they won't let him leave the country.  He has had to hire a local attorney and another one from the Netherlands familiar with Colombian laws to try to get him out of their legal system and back home.  The last I heard there had been no resolution to his problem. :(

I just received a message from him today, so he is okay.  He's a little down because the kickstarter wasn't funded, but plans to post updates to the facebook page Electric Powered Odyssey soon.

Good news!  I hope the rest of his trip goes well.  He is halfway to his destination.  But that ride through Patagonia is really going to be tough.
