Imagine how much interest and sales they would get if they had them in a prominent shopping location in Sydney CBD even if only for a week on display.

I can accept there are not many dealers, also not one in Brisbane, what i can not accept is ripping off Australian buyers and it is offensive. Here is a comparison of price difference between US and AUSTRALIA for same model bikes. (same dollar conversion, gst, on road costs). I accept Zero are expensive compared to ICE bikes, They should not be expensive when compared to themselves in other markets, need to have equivalent pricing. I am a great fan of Zero and have have promoted there product and followed there brand for the last 5 years as have many other Australians. There was great interest on forums and many wanted to but, but when 2014 prices announce many just walked away in disgust at the offensive pricing. No wonder a rebate of $3500 was offered later, which just proved over pricing. People who will buy zero are people who have research EV and Zero and know what they want. Not your averge motorcyclist, who shuns electric.

For about the same price of a SR you can buy a Honda Goldwing , I used Honda because its about same price in Australia and shows on road cost breakdown. prices from manufactures websites, QLD used for On road pricing. Other state may be different. I have added destination charges to US prices.

Australia Price
Honda Goldwing F6B
$27,060 RIDEAWAY
RRP$25,199
Stamp duty$900
CTP$280
Registration and statutory$182
Dealer pre-delivery & inspection$499

US Price
Gold Wing F6B
STARTING AT $20,499*
+ DESTINATION CHARGE: $390.00
Honda F6B $27060 vs $20889 difference $6171
Zero SR. $26490 vs $15995 difference $10495
$4324difference. Zero is way over priced.

Here is another example Honda VFR1200F about same USA price as Zero SR.

Australian Prices
Honda VFR1200F
$18,382 RIDEAWAY
RRP$16,999
Stamp duty$522
CTP$280
Registration and statutory$182
Dealer pre-delivery & inspection$399

USA pricing
VFR1200F
STARTING AT $15,999*
+ DESTINATION CHARGE: $350.00
Honda VFR1200F $18382 vs $16349 difference $2033
Zero SR $26490 vs $15995 difference $10495
$8462 difference , Zero price is way over priced.!!!!

Harley Davidson Street 500 AU$9,995 vs US$6,799 difference $3196
pick any bike model and you get same result.
Zero difference is 3x to 4x other importers, when it should same.

firepower,

I think you have made your point on pricing and we would all like the bikes to be at the lowest price possible with the distributor still remaining viable and an ongoing concern. I would suggest you contact Phil Wilkinson from Zero and put your points to him directly.

I will, and i know of others who have emailed zero directly and have had no response to their emails.
I am sure Zero follow this Forum.

Australia has no charging infrastructure, no government rebate or incentives, So to commit to a EV purchase is a big deal and risk.

Zero FX ZF5.7 $11k USD $19k AUD (+73%)
Victory Motorcycles Vegas 8-Ball $12.5k USD $20k AUD (+67%)
Harley-Davidson Seventy Two Sportster $10.8k USD $18.5k AUD (+71%)

Zero SR ZF12.5 $16k USD $26.5k AUD (+66%)
Victory Motorcycles Hammer 8-Ball $15k USD $22k AUD (+47%)
Harley-Davidson Fat Bob $15.7k USD $25.5k AUD (+62%)

Chevrolet and Ford both sell vehicles in Australia, but they're frequently sold with different equipment packages or configurations.
Fiesta SE hatch is $15.6k USD .. closest equivalent is Fiesta Trend hatch $22k AUD (+41%)

Model S 85D $86k USD $141k AUD (+64%) .. $127k (+48%) without $14k AUD luxury car tax

It sucks, but Zero is basically playing by the same sets of rules as other American manufacturers and pricing their models accordingly. There are a lot of reasons why prices are higher in Australia, but I doubt Zero is arbitrarily packing on thousands of dollars of profit vs their US market vehicles.

Be aware Australia does have a luxury car tax (LCT=33%) and duties 5% and GST 10%  on Cars, there is only GST 10% on Motor Bikes as we have no local manufactures to protect.
Car prices will be way higher.
There is also Fair trade agreement between USA and Australia. But it does not seem very fair, It was supposed to stop this kind of thing.
I have also noticed as bikes models get more expensive the difference get more larger too.

That's funny, the SR is €18.140 in the Netherlands which calculates to 26.500 AUD.

Thats very strange, as taxes and duties and on road costs should be different.
What are the duties and taxes? Is that ride away price?

I sure Netherlands has rebates and incentives for EV

That's the price on the zero site. Normally you'd also pay 19,4% tax for new motors(comparable to your LCT) but because it has zero emission it doesn't apply.
Most dealers have some sort of delivery costs for decrating and ready for the road checks but because the zero is relatively simple it shouldn't be substantial.

Also you don't have to pay road taxes but those weren't high for a motorcycle to begin with(around €120/year).

Well Zero still has plenty of sales in USA, as that market becomes saturated or production increases significantly they are not too concerned about expanding into new markets. To be able to claim to have international sales and dealers is enough to keep to keep venture capalist investing millions.
