On the 2013 ride you just had the one 2.5 kW charger, correct?
Can these charge the bike in parallel with the 1 kW onboard charger?
You had these mounted as saddlebags as I recall. Anything special involved in fabricating mounts?
Protomech, you are correct (mostly...). On the Ride the Future Tour in 2013 going across the country I had 1 2.5kW charger. Though most of the time I used the onboard charger, and only rarely used the onboard and 2.5kW charger together. My how things have changed...
You are not supposed to use both of them along with the onboard charger because it will trip the 30A fuse. I think it is possible for short periods of time if you replace the 30A fuse with a 40A fuse, but do that at your own risk. I did not ever attempt to charge using 3 chargers on my 2012 Zero S.
I fabricated mounts by buying a 2x1 ft piece of steel from Home Depot, drilled some holes in it and trimmed them to shape with tin snips. Those were barely thick enough and after a few thousand miles they now are torn due to stress.
My new mounts are made of 16 gauge steel, which I have greater confidence in. Haven't tried to cut it yet, and I'm not sure tin snips are going to do the trick. Ideas for cutting 16 gauge steel?
