Remote charge control and monitor
« on: October 28, 2014, 05:16:21 PM »

To celebrate the purchase of my 14 DS, I also bought a new remote controller.

I already have a whole house monitor and a shed monitor which gives me 5 sec data but really wanted a timer and specific monitor. The main reason is I want to avoid peak electricity rates ($0.55c kWh!) and use my solar and be able to remotely override if I want a ride despite charging cost.

Then I found the efergy ego. http://efergy.com/au/ego-smart-socket#.VE95OooxnCQ Similar to Belkin WEMO, but they work.

It monitors 30min ave power, has a programable calendar, adjustable energy rates and is wi fi. I can also control it from any where I have access, not just at home.

Theoretically I think I could use it on board the bike as a monitor if charging at cafes etc, so I can bust arguments about how much I have consumed.

At AUD$67 they are a bargain,

Thanks Nigel - yep lots cheaper than Fritz and SMA who offer something similar.

Presumably you'd get your money back in under a year, especially if running off your solar panels.
