Finally got to ride the new 2014 FX!
« on: June 02, 2014, 06:14:13 AM »

After months of waiting and waiting and some more waiting, I finally got to test ride the MY14 FX. The closest dealer is in Hamburg/Germany (I live in Denmark), and they have been really really slow at responding to my emails. They don't like communicating in English, which I find very strange since they sell Harleys and Zero, one should think most shop manuals are in English. Also even when writing in German, they seem to ignore my emails.

Anyway I just decided to drive the 250 miles, and take a chance on the test ride, and when I arrived, it was no problem at all.

And here comes the problem. That bike is super awesome (except the tires), I have to own one of these things for my city commuting! But I'm almost scared of buying it at that dealer (Or any of the other German dealers, some of the others haven't even responded to several emails I send 2-3 months ago).  What if something needs fixing? I fear I will end up waiting months.

Dang what a dilemma. :(

Anyone else having a hard time buying Zeros in Europe?

Hi PDM

I rode one last week too; they are fantastic.

As for support - welcome to the world of early adoption. This forum has been fantastic for helping me and many others in the absence of large scale support networks but no doubt at times life is a hassle compared to a mass market product.

I rode the 2014 FX a month and half ago (this was after first riding the Zero S & DS in autumn) and fell into love with it, hard. I just picked up mine on Thursday and it has been a BLAST having it as an urban commuter.

My dealership seems good (BMW dealership with a social media presence, they've been advertising me too), but they are clueless on some aspects of the Zero. So if any issues arise I will be contacting Zero directly.

Thinking about just going directly to the dutch dealer, they also have the European HQ. But then it's 500 miles to pick one up instead of 250. Maybe they can just ship it (So I can get it smashed right away during transport. :))

You will love the Zero pdm but i would strongly advise you to find a dealer that you can communicate easily with.  Holland would make sense to me from a logistics point of view as it would probably go to Denmark from a Dutch port anyway?  Unless you plan on getting it by road.

You could always go through the Jersey dealer and make a holiday of it!

Hi Pdm, why don't you try to convert your local dealer into becoming a Zero dealer! And then he can immediately make a sale!
But maybe there is already a Danish dealer in the making, by contacting the EU HQ you may find out.

Already asked Zero EU HQ if they would be adding any DK dealers, and the answer was not in the near future.

If I'm going to pick one up in Holland, it's just a 2*500 mile trip with the trailer.... :) shrug

Well, Alkmaar is a very nice town and is famous for its traditional cheese market in the tourist season.
It is also close to the Dutch north sea coast and lots of old windmills not too far around.
Amsterdam is only 45 minutes south of Alkmaar and I can recommend the Rijksmuseum there.

So why not combine the pickup with a short sightseeing break?

I would recommend you to buy your Zero at the Dutch dealer in Alkmaar.
It is a nice drive from Denmark to the Nederlands and you can rent a hotel room in Germany to stay the night over if you don´t want to drive the Whole day.
The dealer in Alkmaar also have the option that you can pick up your bike in the weekend, but you have to make agreement with them.

If the Zero breaks Down ?  ::)

it does not  :D

If it does, you drive to the dealer in the Nederlands, not a big deal

If you need a motorbike trailer for your car please contact me Tino on motorcykelgalleri.dk  :)

Sorry to say, but there is no Zero dealer in Alkmaar. It's the European Office of Zero. If you're looking for the nearest Zero dealer, you could go to Motoport Amsterdam and still visite Alkmaar of course ;). It's all in close distance.

Hi PDM,

what is the price for the FX 5,7 in Hamburg?

It's the exact same price as quoted on Zeros web if you choose Germany:

Thanks for the suggestion. The funny thing is that they are more expensive in Sweden, as they have a bit of taxes on top of electric vehicles. Also even though it looks like it would be easier to get it from sweden, it's a lot harder for me than going to Hamburg. I live in the mainland and have about 200 miles to Hamburg. To get it in Sweden, I would either have to drive 300 miles and pay an expensive bridge, or pay for a REALLY expensive ferry.  >:(

I have a really good dialogue going with HD Performance in Hamburg now, they are really nice, and have answered all my questions right away ever since I visited them, they can probably feel I'm not just another tirekicker. :) They were also aware of the "recall" on the motor, so I feel secure in their service.
