Trailer on a Zero?
« on: May 07, 2014, 01:26:20 AM »

Has this been done before? It would give more use for the bike, since I prefer using it when possible to save gasoline, even with my Prius.

Something like a uni-go trailer might work well.

I think a sidecar with a second battery integrated would be an interesting concept.  It would double the range, carrying capacity ... and the price :(

Can this be attached to a Zero? The frame of the bike doesn't feels strong enough at first sight.

Still under development, and a little big for a motorcycle, but eBuggy is trying to make one for cars.  :)

Still searching for a trailer.

The moto mule seems acceptable but the seller didn't contact me yet for compatibility with the zero.

I also found this: http://www.thirdwheeltrailers.com/index.php/home

Of the ones you have shown, I'd vote for the Moto Mule. It looks to be the most versatile to set up the way you want. I like the shock also if it is going on dirt roads.

Thanks.

The issue I see with the Monomule is that I'm in Canada and I don't know if it will be legal here.

Ok I have been talking with many persons now. There are moto trailer builders in Quebec, AirV design, Cyclope2000, Monogo. I've had a few discussions about the attach. Many of them think it is not a good idea to attach to the rear wheel axle, while thirdwheel thinks it is the best. I do like the idea of using the axle as an attachment.

What do you think?

I have to admit that I've toyed with the idea of a trailer-mounted generator and quick-charging system, turning my SR into a hybrid when I want to make long trips. That'd shut those "not enough range!" idiots up once and for all.

I'm not sure how the bike would feel about being charged WHILE it was running, however. They may be completely independent subsystems, but they may be interlinked somehow.

In practice, I believe the charger being plugged in will cause the MBB to disable the motor (i.e. your interlink). In theory the restriction could be lifted and the charger could extend the battery runtime, if perhaps only slightly with the stock 1.3 kW charger.
