I'll be sad if someone buys it, but I'd like to catch this wave of new chargers and longer range!  This is the motorcycle I rode across the country last summer and I still enjoy riding it.  I live near NYC.

For Sale - 2012 Zero S Electric Motorcycle with Many Upgrades!

Unique opportunity to buy an electric motorcycle that you can use for longer rides!  I rode this 2012 Zero S across the country and have added a Size 6 Controller and 2 external chargers that get you going in 1.5 hours.  I rode from NYC to DC in 1 easy day of riding and use it all the time for weekend trips.  The ONLY reason I am selling it is to upgrade to a newer bike.  It rides smoothly, accelerates quick and is a blast to take on back roads!

My original costs:
$14,000 - 2012 Zero S Electric Motorcycle (stock)
$  2,500 - Size 6 Controller (upgrade)
$  2,500 - 5kW external chargers w/ connecting wires
$     450 - Foot pegs
$     350 - Windscreen
$     350 - Rear bike rack
$     250 - New rear tire (installed)
$     350 - Set of tires (comes with bike)
$20,750 - Total cost of hardware

PRICE -> $12,000 = 2012 Zero S with upgraded controller, external charging system, bike rack (top & sides), spare tires, sport windscreen, passenger foot pegs.

You get a $20,000 bike with a fast charging system that works at any available car charging station.  The fast charging system is the key.  There are only a few electric motorcycles that can charge faster than mine in the world.  If you want to go electric and be able to use it on weekends for long rides, this is the bike for you.  I have gone 100+ miles on a single charge several times.  It is possible, and I can explain how speed affects range if you are interested.

If you want to get an electric motorcycle that accelerates hard and has the option of charging up over lunch, this is the bike for you!

Sold as a package.

I'm not 100% sure, but here is what I think I know: The size of the controller is from the manufacturer of the controller (SEVCON), the part that sends current to the motor. Zero S is normally size 4, whereas the Zero SR is size 6, which is more powerful.

Size    Weight    Voltages    Currents
Size 2    1.3kg    24-80V    180A - 300A    Drawing
Size 4    2.7kg    24-110V    300A - 450A    Drawing
Size 6    4.6kg    24- 80V    550A - 650A    Drawing

External charger, this is an accessory from Zero. Only 1 charger is integrated to the bike. For quicker charging, Zero sells additional chargers that you must plug and let it outside of the bike.

Picture of a size 6 controller installed (on tail) of my 2013 S

Normal size 4 controller is 2/3 the size of the size 6 if I recall.

Chargers on this bike are on the tank, the silver looking things. If you find my youtube channel (callmeburton) I have several videos up there where you can see the wiring and chargers / charge control unit / sevcon dc to dc  / etc But is a 2013 so ...

Maybe I will make a video about all the components later when I better understand my wire diagram I am creating; which seems to have no interest btw. -_-

Basically a size 6 controller on a 2012 Zero S means that it accelerates like a 2013 Zero S.  Functionally it makes my "older" model bike ride more like a "new" model.  It's fast and weighs less than the 2013 bikes so it is really nimble.

Like all Zero S models, the battery is not removable.  I charge it overnight 95% of the time and use the 5kW external chargers when I go on longer rides on weekends.  Once you have the faster external chargers, you never want to go back to only being able to charge slowly!

Here is a photo with the external chargers mounted to the back of the bike.

I rode 100+ miles on a single charge several times averaging about 40mph.  Some of the miles were on 50mph roads and some were definitely on slower 25mph roads.  If you use the throttle judiciously you can go pretty far!

So the size 6  upgrade  on a 2012 S make similar aceleration feeling as the 2013 S ?

That's what i wanted to know since months!

the stock Zero S 2012 has 9kW of power...with the gen4 size 4 controller...

with the gen4 size 6 controller the motor power will be twice? so 18kW?

the stock Zero S 2013 has 40kW motor power??

Stock 2012 is around 20-22 kW. Size 6 improves by 25-30%. 2013 is 40 kW, size 6 improves by 25%.

I saw peak above 30kW  on the Cycle Analyst display on my stock 2012 S since i made the last firmware upgrade... it seem to respond better.. but it might me my imagination...

In 2013 i was only capable to see about 27kW on my 2012 S and now i see up to 30kW at about 80-90kmh while accelerating.
