Conversion: 2012 S to 2013 S new look!
« on: October 11, 2013, 05:42:53 AM »

Yes guys this is the first phase of my 2012S mod:

Adding the seat and fairings and gas tank of the 2013 to my 2012S !  ( not an easy job!! but really similar than my 2011 to 2013 mod.

Phase II will be the controller upgrade to a Size 6 I have spoke to Biff about the new 75-7 motor and  we concluded that without  increasing the actuial voltage, the motor would not gain enough power compare to the actual ME912 Motonergy.  So the Size 6 controller will be the best upgrade.

Phase III will be the addition of a ZF3 battery to get ZF12 !

Right now i'm wqorking to the rear tail frame that i ahve to mod to fit the 2013 tail frame.

Than i'll have to mod the seat to match the top frame of the 2012.

Than i'll have to relocate few electrical components like the DC-Dc to fit the 2013 "air" tank... I meant "gas"tank ;D
I'll also have to mod that gas tank including the little compartment in order to keep the frame intact instead of cuting it to fit the compartment.

I will update this thread as soon as i take pics of the process

Are you sure about clearance for installing a ZF3 where the charger is? The ZF3 pack seems MUCH larger.

No i'm not sure. This will be to be investigated. I would apprecaite to get the ZF3 pack dimensions... I know that if i install it in the same direction as the actual ZF9, it should fit insid ethe frame. This would make like a pile of 4x ZF3 pack insueaf of the actual 3x of the ZF9.

I already have some of  the 2kWh from the Zero X to get an idea of the dimensions... but i hope that the ZF3 pack is less thick...

I am not sure the minimum clearance i should keep between the motorcycle and the ground for safety... any idea?

I know that some racer motorcycle have their fairings very close to the ground but these are not rectangular and are more like a valley shap...

The modules are stacked vertically inside the enclosure. I would guess they are around 8" thick.

That would mean the actual ZF9 battery would be 24 inch tall ??? ( 3 x 8)

I think it is a bit lower maybe 28 inch, that would mean about  6 inch each module.

what do you think?

Doctorbass, a couple of questions if I may.
I'm quite interested in doing these mods to my own ZF9, especially as the 2013 seat is more comfortable than the motorcross seat they used on the 2012 model.

How much did the seat and fairings cost?
How willing were Zero to sell them?

Thanks

Hello,

You can get these parts from your local Zero dealer easy, or just Order directly from Harlan Flagg from Hollywood electric. I hordered mine from Harlan too.

here is the prices i got for these parts: ( Pirce from april 2013)

2013 s parts:
Seat $62.46
Tank Left $18.09
Tank Right $18.12
Tank Center $20.34
Tank Bag $105.72

Contact:

This is not an easy job and all components are not bolt on... you HAVE TO CUT SOME PARTS TO MAKE THEM FIT as well but i did it twice and it worked on my 2011 and 2012 8)

On one of my YT video i showed at the end some pics fo the mod anc where to cut

I imagine shipping to the UK might up the prices somewhat.

Modding metal and plastic holds little fear for me, as metal working is a hobby of mine.  ;D
