LED blinkers and flashing lights and sounds....
« on: October 07, 2013, 02:22:45 PM »

Hello, just a small video where I tried deseperatly to speak english showing:
-LED blinkers which won't work unless you put a specific LED blinker relay or some resistors in series. As I wanted less electricity consumption I went to the relay.
-Not detailled on the video: front small light and rear plate LED light
-Flashing (or not) stroboscopic LED light with noise.

I made some electric amps measures:
Blinkers: original 4x750mA, LED 4x100mA (not the same rear-front because I needed a flat front so I can glue my flashing light)
Front position light (the small one): original 370mA, Creed LED 95mA
Rear plate: original 370mA, LED 11mA
Stroboscopic 4xLED bars: 700mA

DON'T USE anti-error LED as they have a resistor so the onboard computer on cars sees them as regular lights. Bye bye electricity savings !!!

While I was dismounting my bike I'd made these remarks:
Screws were unfastening under the seat which was becoming more and more loose under my fat.....back ! . And also the reinforcement "x" bar between the front and the rear of the frame was unfastening. On the right side below the false "fuel tank" at the limit of the seat one big wire was rubbing directly on the frame whereas on the other side there was a plastic protection on the frame.
And here is the film:

Nice job. Are the plate and position lights simple bulb replacements?

Your English is very good :)

Nice lighting function, and good appearance also.  You did a good job.

That is one thing I do not like about aluminum frames, they can be damaged too easily by rubbing.  That is smart to go over your bike and fix problems like that.  Sometimes I use Permacel P-421 Teflon tape for these situations.  It is definitely slick, but it doesn't stick all that good.  Still it works pretty well most of the time.

Great job.  When I saw the title 'flashing lights and sounds' I thought it would be 'cheesy' but that looks great and very practical too.  Just be careful you don't get in trouble for impersonating a police officer!

I would love some more info, where did you get the parts and did you build the flasher relay unit yourself or buy it ready made?

I'm putting some pictures to share with you:

1- where the original turn signal relay is
2- my "special LED" relay don't have the same electrical pin layout so I have to invert two pins pins on the relay holder.
3- the special LED relay with its mapping.
4- last picture is the beeper for the blinker beeper (not the bigger one for the stroboscopic light). It's connected via 2 diodes to the + of both left and right blinkers at the rear. Help me not to forget to switch off the turn signal.

And here is the place on the frame that was not protected whereas the other side was. I put a piece of mountain bike tire to protect the cables from erosion.

No because best LED headlights are not just bulb but full headlights and futhermore round ones: http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenericView?pageName=/home.jsp&storeId=10001&langId=-1
http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/headlights/
So it was a little complicated. Futhermore I'm living in the countryside and often ride during the winter by night and under the rain. I need all the light I can have !!! I have switch to Xenon on another bike but even if it's a bright white light it's not as good as a good H4 in "real" life and nasty conditions.

I have installed a new 3 positions switch for my lights: OFF, LED on steady, stroboscopic LED+sound. It's a water resistant micro switch just next to the "flash passing light" button.
You need a steady hand for soldering !!!

That's a very neat solution but not sure i would have the confidence to drill holes in my switchgear! I thought the black plastic cover on top of the tank (on 2012 model) would be a good space for switches.

Which LED controller have you used for the flashing programs?
