Overall Noise
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:43:54 AM »

My 2013 DS seems to make more noise than my 2012 did.  There are some high pitched whine type noise that is reasonably loud.  Has anyone else noticed any differences with the 2013 or am I just crazy (very possible)?

The fact that the motor is a different design will probably account for most of the noise… just guessing.

I've noticed that high pitched whine at times on my 2013 FX. I think it is a characteristic of Zero's new motor. It worried me at first.

You should hear what a Brammo Empulse sounds like when it is coming to a stop.  That thing is pretty loud, but I don't know if it is the motor or the drive-train making the noise. When I was riding with Bill on his Empulse R, I could hear it behind me even though I was wearing earplugs and a full-face helmet.

My only concern is that I equate noise to something vibrating and eventually wearing out.  I hope that I am wrong about that.  :-\

Noise is also energy expended moving air back and forth instead of the bike forward. ;)

It is probably all of the power in the new motor.....   ;D

I wouldn't be surprised if the motor noise is amplified by the new fully-enclosed motor's fins, which the 2012 motor does not have.
