According to an article on page 98 of the December issue of the BMW Owners News Chris Pfeiffer, riding BMW's prototype C Evolution electric scooter, won the Electric Scooter World Championship at the INTERMOT raceway in Cologne on October 7, 2012. The article says that the Electric Scooter World Championship race saw a wide range of production and prototype e-scooters going head-to-head. The race was run on a tight and twisty Supermoto track. Chris Pfeiffer is BMW's professional hired-gun stunt rider and no doubt out-rode the other contestants in the race. As the C Evolution scooter was a one-off prototype, it probably didn't lack for power and had the batteries needed to get through the 30-miniute race. Pfeiffer's lap times were only about 8 seconds slower than the amateur Supermoto riders who had been racing on the same track earlier that day. He said that he had to hang off the scooter to get the most cornering clearance when getting around the tight track (not surprising, having ridden a BMW C650GT scooter I can tell you those scooters are quite wide). The C Evolution scooter still had 37% of its battery capacity remaining at the end of the race, while other contestants were running out of juice by the finish. The only modifications to the scooter were described as installing sticky Pirelli tires and having the traction control program modified to suit Pfeiffer's riding style (he specializes in front and rear wheel "wheelies" in confined spaces).
