Subforums?
« on: September 19, 2012, 04:42:27 AM »

Suppose it's possible to split the Zero forum into multiple sub-forums.

For example, we could split into subforums by model year:

* 2006 Electrikross
* 2008 X
* 2009 X, MX, S, DS
* 2010 X, MX, S, DS
* 2011 X, MX, XU, S, DS
* 2012 X, MX, XU, S, DS
* 2013 ???

Or by interest area:

* Dirt Riding
* Mods & Customizing
* Troubleshooting
* Zero News
* Zero Racing
* Everything Else

Maybe some of these sub-forums would be better served by moving into the parent general forums. For example, discussion regarding solar power or other manufacturers' bikes may be better served in another forum, except where it pertains to the Zero bikes (for example, comparing Zero S vs Empulse).

A disadvantage to splitting into multiple subforums is that it makes it difficult to track new messages; for example, on the Brammo Owner's Forum, I typically view new messages by clicking unread messages at the top of the forum. On the Zero subforum here, I just visit the forum to see what is new.

Thoughts?

The second option would be great. spliting by subject seem better than by years and model

Like it as is. All in one inbox. The forum has subs for other areas. Unless we archive all the inactive sections to tidy up and make this forum as is for mostly Zeros.

I like it as it is; but if we switch, I'd prefer the second option.

My thought is that there should be two sub-forums.  One for 2012 models and the other for the previous years.  Since there are so many more people who bought the new model than the previous years and the 2012 models have different motors, batteries and other stuff, that would seem to make it easier to categorize and locate information without getting too complicated.  Either that or when posting threads we need to be sure to include the model year in the subject to reduce the confusion that can occur when the model year is not clear.

A similar split should be done for the Brammo forum.  That should be split into Enertia and Empulse sub-categories (assuming that Empulse sales will be occurring one of these days).

Another option may be to keep a sticky thread at the top with links to relevant threads organized by topic and perhaps year. The 2011 and previous bikes do get a bit buried beneath the 2012 information (and glitch discussion).
