2013?
« on: September 19, 2012, 01:11:04 AM »

my "local" (250 miles) dealer says they have marked down 2012 models since the 2013 models "are coming".  i can't find a stitch of info about them, can you?

No info has been released (officially) yet. From what I've heard the 2013 bikes aren't coming until 2013. Expect a more powerful dirt bike, among other things.

How much of a markdown?  That will affect resale value.  My dealer is still trying to sell 2011 models for $1000 off.

we seem to get a taste of what is possible with this Zero MX Extreme Race Edition - beating petrol 450cc bikes in a trail race.

well, they got back to me and i think i'm going to pull the trigger.

2012 ds zf9
$11895, with 10% federal tax rebate and 75% colorado tax rebate,
0%apr for 12 months, plus $200 gift card (25,000 miles of electrons).

$300 delivery for 500-mile round trip means not much more than if i picked it up myself with my pickup truck (plus probably 10 hours round trip of my time).

i figure i'll save the cost of the bike in gas my first year.  i produce enough solar power to make money back from the elec co every month anyway :)

What motorcycle are they using as the comparable gas model?

The 10% federal tax credit AFAIK has not yet passed congress, it's still a bill to be voted on.

Colorado is 75% of the MSRP difference between the comparable gas model, to a max of $6000.

I don't see a table of published comparable models yet, but say it's a Ninja 250R at $4449. 75% * ($13995 - $4449) = $7159, so probably it will use the $6000 maximum.

$13995 - $6000 = $7995 without the potential federal 10% tax credit.

Or do you mean it's $12k before both the federal tax credit and the CO tax rebate?

i am writing the dealer back to clarify, but yes the 12k is pre-incentives, tax, fees.  but whoops, i did mistype above regarding the incentive for CO.

still, i very much appreciate your help clarifying.  on the colorado gov website regarding incentives i noticed it says something to the effect of 75% of the "differential cost" but doesn't go on to clarify what the "differential" is between.

I have fun - a lot - e ery day on my 2011- for me it is not comparable to Nija 250 at all. Maybe a motard KTM 660 or something midsized. But still differnet - the sound, the agility - the package.

i think the comparison is probably meant to mean that between the target bike and a bike of similar size/weight/power/function.  maybe a gasgas pantera 250?  otoh, made in the same country would probably also make sense.  harley softtail?  ;)

Hi Dahleim,
I just sent you a email to your yahoo account with a CO gov published pdf attachment,  it clearly details what they've defined as a "differential cost" for all Zero models.  It also includes some gory details regarding the rebate law, if you're interested.
In short, protomech guessed correctly, the rebate will be limited by the $6000 maximum.

Congrats on your great deal on your 2012 DS9.  Awesome!

I believe CO uses the actual price paid. I don't know if tax, shipping are included.

75% * ($11895 - $4449) = $5584.50 credit

$11895 - $5584.50 - $200 = $6110. I don't know if the federal rebate stacks with the CO rebate (for example, if the CO rebate is applied after the federal rebate then the federal rebate is effectively (100% - 75%) * 10% = 2.5%. Still an extra $300 off if the federal credit goes through, bringing net cost to $5813.

Ridiculously good. I want to move to CO : P

Congrats on the new bike! Just be aware that you will get taxed by the Feds on the CO credit the following year. I was a bit surprised when I got the notice of the "income" I received from the State of CO for my original purchase of my 2010 DS. Nevertheless, the CO deal for electric bikes is a no brainer. Enjoy the ride!
