I found that there are so many ways to attach the mounts that some noodling may be very beneficial to get them to attach tightly especially by getting some nice contact on the rear of the wingrack; that was key for me.

And I'm surprised by how much fits into the Givi E21s.  While they can't fit a helmet they each do fit my Timbuk2 sling bag so that I don't have to carry it on me on my commute and allows me to do some limited shopping in addition.  I really like not having to carry the bag.

As a side note, when I was in a local dealership yesterday I saw a fully tricked out Zero DS as a police vehicle including the factory/Beaudry tubular mounts that I'd considered early on.  I was again glad that I didn't go with them not only for the expense but also given the gap between the bike and the bag that would make the bags less aerodynamic than what I ended up with.

The Givi site lists the weight limit as 11 lbs/case, seems really low. 2 gallons of milk will greatly exceed that. Any thoughts?

Weight limits for any motorcycle luggage is always understated by the manufacturer.  BMW has been offering hard shell motorcycle luggage for many years and 11 pounds is typical of what they say is the load limit. That is just being very conservative, especially when their luggage usually weighs more than that empty.  No one pays any attention to those weight limits and few people have died because of over-stuffing their luggage (like me).  BMW also recommends that their motorcycles never exceed 80 mph when carrying soft-sided luggage.  More CYA.  Personally, I wouldn't pay any attention to that 11 pound limit unless you see something start to bend or crack - or in my case, bulge.

As funny as that might be, I would bet they are doing everything they can right now, just aven't figured it out yet, or are testing the "fix" to make sure it's it as not to jump the gun again.  I convinced myself it had something to do with the wiring harness to the motor, and still think it might be a part of it.  The trouble is it likes to disappear for a while sometimes and make you believe it is gone.  I'd believe there's a chance that's how the BMS recall went down too.

Back on the thread topic, I use the zero soft luggage and love them.  But the hard cases look awesome too! Great work!

Saddleman Tunnel bag on mine -  Approx. $120.
Works to carry most items.  It would be nice if it expanded upward for my larger loads and the sides were a bit bigger, but it works fine for 99% of my daily needs and my quick run to the grocery store.  The propane tanks are a big big for it.

I checked with Givi and they have discontinued the Y127 hardware kit.  No planned replacement.   I would like to mount the E21s on my DS.   Anyone know of another mounting kit that will work?

After being told by Givi that the Givi E21 can not be fitted to the Zero DS and the parts listed by JPaulus could not be ordered anymore I called Harlan at Hollywood Electrics and he ordered everything that was needed and I installed the Givis last night.

The install was pretty straightforward but there are a lot of variables and everything is adjustable so it took some time to tweak it to my taste.  The hard part is connecting the support rods to the rear foot peg mounting holes on the inside of the frame.  If I had my exact fit I would scoot bags back another couple of inches but this could not be done without some bracket fabrication.

I really like the end result.   Light, solid, weathertight and easily removable.   Capacity that is good for commuting and style that complements the DS.  I can add a top trunk if needed and the Givi plate makes a great top rack for strapping to if cargo needs exceed the cases.

Got a Givi Wingrack 2 for my 2012 Zero S so I can attach a couple of Elcon 2500W chargers to my bike.  Just waiting for my motorcycle to arrive from California... it's a week late and I need to ride!
