I can't speak for other bikes, but the 2012 ZF9 has right-handed thread for the right-side mirror, and left-handed thread for the left-side mirror.

I imagine they did that so the wind wouldn't be pushing on the left-side mirror and loosening it.

I had no idea it was this way until I tried to remove the mirror to install the extender. (I did see Richard's post about this, but I had already ordered the extenders...)

I concur with oobflyer. The left-hand mirror has left-hand threads. This is typical of mirror mounts for most motorcycles in my experience. This keeps the wind from knocking the mirrors loose while you are riding.

I guess I just lucked out. On the 2010 DS both sides are left hand threads so the duplicate order worked! Only bummer is something is now wrong with my bike. Working with Zero to get it fixed while still under warrantee.

Stay sunny CO!

That 2-year warranty is very nice. It was a selling point for me. I noticed right away the mirrors were not going to work...all I was seeing was my shoulders just like the article somone posted said about the DS mirrors, so my Aprilia dealer that sold me the Zero, put on a pair of Tuono mirrors and gave me the Zero ones as spares. The Tuonos look nice and do the job...they do stick out a little more. I suppose lane splitting was the reason to try and keep them in so close, but sheesh, you have to be able to see behind you.

I checked the link to Amazon.com for the adapters. That takes you to Luckybike.com.
On Monday April 30, I ordered the 10mm Right Hand Thread adapter and the 10mm
Left Hand Thread adpater for $18.44 including shipping. Received them on Thursday
May 3rd and installed them. Major improvement.

If someone wants to order just the left-hand adapter (reversed thread) I have an extra right-handed adapter that I'll send to you for free - just let me know.

I got the left-handed adapter from Amazon (Luckybike) and it fit perfectly. Now I can see out of both mirrors - what a huge difference - the anxiety of not knowing what's going on behind me is now gone.

Even with these extenders, my field of vision is quite limited. I am thinking of getting another set and adding it on. Excessive? Would it help?

I went with a single collapsible bar end you can see it here folded in. You can get one for each side, but I like the way it looks only on one side.

You can get the parts you need from http://www.hollywoodelectrics.com you may need to call them though. Really cool guys.

The regual mirrors wrok pretty well if you don't stick your elbows out too for though.
