Zero Mirror Adapters
« on: April 25, 2012, 03:52:56 AM »

I just completed the purchase of an S-9 (in transit).  The test ride today on a S-9
and two weeks ago on a XU confirmed what everyone has been saying about the
mirrors. Ypou cannot see the cars behind you.
.
Someone posted that their dealer had an adapter kit. Can this be confirmed with
manufacturer and model? Many thanks.

My dealer mounted a "mirror extender kit" (yes, it is essential). Not sure of the manufacturer but looks like a standard motorcycle accessory.

And here are the mirror extenders that I have on my Zero S (or at least ones that look exactly like what I have on my bike). I note that Amazon sells them for about half of what my dealer sold them to me for.

I just took another look at that Amazon part and realized that it is only for the right-hand mirror. You also will want to purchase a mirror extender for the left-hand mirror. This extender has left-hand threads and is machined differently than the one used for the right mirror.

You will also need to measure your mounting bolt diameter to be sure you purchase a mirror extender that uses the correct bolt size.  The mirror extender referenced in my previous post is for 10mm bolts and I am not sure what size mounting bolt is used by the Zero (not wanting to remove my mirrors to check).

My Zero Should arrive this week. I live 50 miles North of Denver and the dealer is on the South side
56 miles away, so they said they would deliver the bike to me. This means I can't verify the threads
for the mirtror adapters in advance.
.
Amazon.com shows both 10mm right hand and 10mm left hand adapters from "Lucky Bike". Lucky also
has 8mm right hand adapters.
.
Can someone verify what is required? I would like to order them and have them ready to install when
my bike is delivered.
.
Thank you very much for the informnation provided so far. Can't wait to start riding an electric motorcycle.

I ordered the left/right pair a couple days ago from Amazon (for $15, i didn't have much to lose). I'll post back once I get them.

What I'd really like is a folding mechanism I could use on my existing mirrors, something like the CRG lane-splitter bar-ends but that would allow the mirrors to be located up higher. I prefer the mirrors more up in my field of vision when I'm looking forward at the road. But the Amazon specials will do for now, and you can't beat the price (the CRGs are about $80 each online -- ouch).

By my measurement, the bolts appear to have an 8mm diameter.

On my 2010 DS I ordered two right side mirror extenders and they work on both sides perfectly!

I ordered the pair of mirror extenders from Amazon.com and found that threads of the mount and bolt of the left hand mirror is reversed (left-handed). So these extenders aren't compatible with the 2012 Zero S. I went ahead and mounted an extender on the right side, but will have to find another solution for the left side.

So, I ordered the left hand mirror (reverse thread) extender from eBay and I now have an extra right-hand mirror extender. If anyone wants it just let me know - I'll send it to you for free (I hate to see it go to waste).

I'm a little confused.  One person claims that 2 identical extenders work just fine and another claims that he had to get a special extender for the left side.  Are the mirrors of different bikes randomly threaded the same or different?  Why would they have different threading directions on the two sides?  (I guess perhaps so that the mirror extending towards the outside of the motorcycle will be threaded such that it can easily be pushed - "break away, folding" style - towards the back of the bike, but not towards the front?)
