5w fuse keeps blowing out
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:08:58 AM »

I added this to my bike
http://www.soundoffrec.com/products/lights.aspx
it keeps your rear lights on all the time for better visibility.
it works great by the way, highly recommended.

I also bought some led blinking lights for safety reasons and added these to the same power supply (the rear break light) but when I turn those on the fuse lasts about 6 minutes before burning up.

what other power supply can I splice into to make my bike more safe?

what amperage do all the loads draw from that fuse? How many amps output is the DC-DC converter on the bike? I'm not familiar with it.

One thing, fuses are rated in Amps.... some have a wattage associated.... but the amps is what you care about, especially on only 12V.

and from your link it says:
Priority Lites / Priority Plus are not compatible with most aftermarket LED turn signal assemblies.

this might be part of the problem. LED lights often come with a shunt to burn of excessive power (yeah not saving power here...) to make the LEDs work - means they still draw a lot of current. As well what wattage do you have your rear lights at ? you can work out the current that is drawn. Watts = Volts * current therefore current = Watts/Volts etc...

What are the other two 10amp fuses on the zero 2010ds bike for? I'm guessing one is for the headlight?

I don't know that amsp the led's are. they are some cheap no name LED's I got from china off ebay.

that being said they are not connected to the Priority Lites, they are simply on the same fuse.
I have the LCD display, rear break light, priority lites and probably around 40 led's connected the 5w fuse.

What would be a good place to splice into the 12V power and get the loads more evenly balanced?

if they don't tell you what they draw, then get an ammeter and measure the amps that the LED's take to work....

and tell us what the amperage of the fuse is, not the wattage.... 5W doesn't tell me anything

the spare fuse is for canadian versions apparently
ideal for running extra applications
