Q: Sevcon Millipak 4Q + "boost" connection

I want to think before I fry my controller and am asking for comments from experienced gurus here.

I have 4P4S setup of 20Ah 12V AGM batteries and ME-0708 motor (DC, brushed).

Getting my bike to speed is bloody slow now (will change gearings, now 11:41) but still; the idea of passing the controller does not give me rest.

Would I fry the controller and why, if I had a switch which had dual relay (plus, minus) bypassing the controller for acceleration? Relays would connect battery pack minus and plus to controllers motor-contacts directly. Controller would remain connected, but the juice would flow directly from batteries to motor. When I would release the switch, the relays would open and then all the juice would go once again through the controller.

I guess coming back from bypass would be the challenging part.

the only reason you would ever want to do that is if you had bought an undersized controller. The one you listed has 100amp cont and 300amp peak rating which are only slightly lower than what you motor can handle. Firstly make sure you controller is outputing 300amps during hard acceleration.

also, how slow is slow acceleration, your set up won't be as fast as gas bikes no matter what you do to it.

I guess I need to measure the amperage that the controller gives the motor under 100% acceleration. If it's not 300 or close, there must be something funny going on. I understand the motor and the controller are well balanced pair.

"how slow" is a difficult question to answer, as I no reliable means of measurement of acceleration. The top speed however is 91 km/h, measured with GPS. I guess I could measure the time it takes to reach that with a stopwatch.

GPS is always a little bit late, so a reliable bolted on speedometer would be better. I have to think about this.

Anyway, new gearing is being made as I write this :)

borrow a clip on ampmeter capable of high amperage from someone would be the easiest way and clip it on the controller-motor cable (pos or neg doesnt matter)
