Coulomb to build 4,600 Charging Stations
« on: June 03, 2010, 04:45:07 AM »

According to an article in my newspaper, written by Dana Hull of the Mercury News Service, Coulomb Technologies, a Campbell, CA, start-up, is expected to announce today that it plans to install more than 4,600 EV charging stations in 9 metropolitan regions across the US. Their $37 million "ChargePoint America" program is being funded in part by a $15 million DOE grant. More than 1000 new public charging stations will be installed by December, with the remaining 3,600 to be installed by October 2011.

California is expected to receive one third of the charging stations. Other metro areas to receive the stations (besides the SF Bay Area and Sacramento, CA) include Austin, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, FL, Redmond, WA, and Washington, DC.

The CEO of Coulomb, Richard Lowenthal says that their products are built and installed with American Labor. Coulomb was founded in 2007 and raised $14 million in second-round venture funding earlier this year. They have 60 employees.

Coulomb's "ChargePoint Network" is open to all drivers. Drivers will sign up for monthly passes and swipe a card to pay for charging sessions.
