So I'll introduce myself. Travis, I have a small bicycle shop in Baton Rouge, LA, we build bicycle frames in the back. Got a mill, lathe, TIG, bender, plethora of bicycle and motorcycle parts lying around. I love road racing. Have had a track addiction for some years, the GSXR's are my heart and I love all my bikes (even the 50cc 4 strokes). The mini road racers are possibly my favorites though. There's a go cart track 45 minutes west that has a decent mini road race club that just repaved and added a mini-motard flat track. I have a few XR100's with 17" rims and Bridgstone GP slicks on. My number one bike has proper 2.5" and 3.5" rims and heavy springs, frame and fork brace, but stock motor, pipe, intake, jets etc. SLOW!!! I am typically one of the slowest thing at the track in the straights. I weigh 200lbs, bike made 7hp new, has barely any compression left and looks like it was found in a trash dump, however you are not getting under me in a turn unless you weigh 65lbs (John Geismer) or just stuff me.
I have always been a tinkerer, also always been fascinated by the idea of building electric cars and bikes. Cue a customer/buddy, Allan, who is a serious computer/hardware geek who cannot get a license due to sight problems and rides an electric assist bicycle around town. This guy has car bright headlights, tail and brake lights, stereo. It's the Goldwing of bicycles. So we're building him a stronger rear wheel for his set up and we get to talking, next thing I know (I was a few drinks in as it was after work) I have spent way to much of my hard earned PayPal balance on a motor and controller. So here I go.
Then, I realize this motor is way to big for my application(s) and Allen gets creamed by a car (about 5 days ago) while riding home one evening. He is going to be OK, a few broken ribs, collar bone, and a few screws here and there. At least they got the driver but he won't be around to help for a while.
So, I ordered and received a Mars Etek type  0708. Mounted it in a XR100 roller I had sitting around. Now need to finalize the controller and battery choices, fill in the blanks (capacitors, contactor, throttle, etc.) If I get it figured out I will move the drive train to the mini rr chassis, go to the track and roundly thrash the gassers.
So pics and stuff later. I have several full size sportbike chassis that I hope to apply this learning to at some point. Understand, I'm kinda a hippie, used to being scoffed at for being a vegetarian or anti violence, I'm not showing up at the track and giving EV's a bad name, I promise.

I have that same motor in my sons old school minibike and it is definitely fast.
It runs at 48 volts and uses an Alltrax 4834 controller, tops out at 50 mph.
