Meh!
« on: November 05, 2024, 08:51:28 PM »

I've never given a damn about dirt bikes and I have no need for an "Electric Grom." Some announcement. :(

Its good for them to make motorcycles that suit a variety of users, so they can stay in business. I want them to stick around so I can continue riding my SRS. They definitely need to make bikes that will sell in other countries than the US, at least for now. Ive been riding mine for over four years, almost 60k miles. Never seen another Zero on the road. Zero Zeros. I get approached often by people curious about it and they ALWAYS say "I've never seen one of those!" And my standard reply is, except for this one...neither have I.

I agree with both of you. The bikes Zero announced are of no interest to me, but I assume they researched the market and expect them to sell.

As I said here in another thread or perhaps on Reddit or Facebook, if these new models help Zero keep and expand their dealer network, it is a win for current owners whether they want such bikes or not.

And I can see people who might rather buy such a bike from a local dealer rather than some mail order company/importer who has unknown service/support capabilities.

Also, isn't the XE model larger than a Surron/Taleria and more along the lines of a normal size 125-200cc dirt bike?  Back in my younger days when I lived in CT, I would have loved something like that for woods riding.

XE looks pretty good honestly and is priced reasonably.

Dirt bikes is where the future is for e-motos. First, because generally dirt bikes aren't ridden long distances so they dont need huge heavy expensive batteries. Second, because the math actually works out for the owner who gets similar or better performance with much cheaper and less maintenance.

Battery technology just isn't there for capable on-road machines that aren't incredibly expensive.

Much wiser to go this route than another lame street bike.

I just don't see anyone buying the XB over any of the tens of other alternatives. These sorts of bikes get broken and upgraded and Zero aren't exactly easy to get parts from. Also you can get those other bikes delivered straight to your door, are these going to be dealer only?

The XE is more interesting and perhaps decently priced, I'd still rather a used FX for the money but if it has to be new then it's quite appealing for less than half the cost.

Your opinion has been noted. Good for you that the "Electric Grom" is only a prototype of a development idea. Some people might have liked it, maybe bad news for them.
