Where to find a short brake lever?
« on: August 27, 2024, 09:46:08 PM »

hello everyone,
off-roading with the Zero FX, it often happens that I bend the lever even if I keep it soft. Is there any way to find a short one so that when the bike falls, the lever doesn't touch and therefore doesn't bend? Thank you

ah, at worst you can saw it off, but if there was something ready-made for cheap I could buy 2 or 3 and take them with me as a spare

Find a Ribelle owner,  let the bike tip over, there you go, short brake handle at a nice price hopefully !

Besides for maybe some 3rd vendor type thing, I don't think you'll find many of them.

How short you looking?  Not sure it's going to help much as the dynamics, it tends to drag a bit, or dig into the dirt, so unless you shortened it to like half way.... and with that.  how useful is it still for you, can you operate it decently w/o having to really get on it, or search for it?

In all my years of browsing for parts I never saw a third party brake lever. You don't find many third party bits at all, not even footpegs so I had to buy ones for something like an RM250 and take an angle grinder to them to get them to fit right. Maybe you could find something marketed for some other bike that uses the same JJuan master cylinder but I have no idea what.

Can you mount bark-busters? That was always the first addition I made in my dirt bike days.

Of course you can mount bark-busters.   My DSR/X came with plastic handguards and while picking it up from the dealer, the tech dropped it breaking the plastic handguard.   The dealer did eventually get me the OEM replacement but by that time I had already bought a set of cheap aftermarket handguards with a metal strip running from point to end point from Amazon.   Didn't take much to mount them on the DSR/X.

I swapped to a master cylinder from a Suzuki DRZ400. Pretty simple though I might have had to change the terminal ends for the brake light switch. That allowed me to choose from a wide array of options, folding, adjustable, etc. Went with a Zeta folding unbreakable billet or whatever. Works great, looks the shit!

Half the cost of the OEM lever which is overpriced and made of Brieluminum  (a soft alloy) and as an added bonus the brake light switch is available separately.
