Cypher III Firmware Update: MBB V37
« on: July 08, 2024, 03:35:36 AM »

V37 was just released.  One of the bug fixes listed is "Improvements to kickstand state detection."  Does anyone know what exactly has been changed?

Probably either lowered or raised the threshold value, depending on whether they were having issues with it thinking it's down when it's up or up when it's down.

Hello Zero Owners!
As some of you have noticed, we released a new firmware update on July 3rd for all owners of Cypher III equipped vehicles, including:
20MY-24MY SR/F & SR/S
22MY-24MY SR
23MY-24MY DSR/X
24MY S, DS & DSR
Here are the release notes for this update, which will also be posted on our website shortly:
MY20/21/22/23/24 Cypher III MBB Rev 37 BMU Rev 15 BMS Rev 26
New Features:
• When the power pack gets to 0%, the motorcycle will no longer periodically wake to run system checks while keyed off. This periodic wake state will only re-enable once the motorcycle is charged.
• Support for 3kW charger updates.
Bug Fixes/Improvements:
• Resolved issue causing 12v batteries to discharge when the charge cable is plugged in while the power pack is cold.
• Improvement to kickstand state detection
• General maintenance changes to improve codebase.
As always, thank you for your continued support and if you experience any issues installing this firmware update, don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@zeromotorcycles.com.

efull - That's where I got my info in the first place.  Unfortunately, Zero likes to keep their firmware descriptions as short as possible, with no really useful information for owners.  Do you happen to know what the kickstand state detection change really entails?

The kickstand state is binary, so it won't be anything to do with thresholds, more likely fixes a broken state transition causing it to think the kickstand is in the wrong state (up or down).

Well if the gen 3 bikes use a hall effect sensor like the gen 2 ones and not a reed or physical switch then it's measuring a change in voltage, that's variable. That's why to bypass them you'd put a resistor across the connector instead of a simple bridging wire.

Hmm I haven't ever thought to check, but that would seem like an unnecessarily fiddly way to achieve an on/off switch ... I will investigate later unless someone else gets there first to confirm.

I assume it's to allow a greater range (as in physical distance) than a physical switch and greater stability than a reed switch (and possibly range too). You don't really want the motor cutting out because the stand is bouncing about or isn't quite pushed all the way to the stop. The kickstand switch on my bike will activate from like 75% raised.

A couple firmware updates ago I began getting daily CANBUS Communications Faults. Returned after clearing but only after riding and not while sitting in garage.

After this update I no longer get the faults. I suspect now it was the kickstand state detection…the prior firmware tightened the parameters and my particular bike fell outside the parameters and faulted. Never had an issue with the bike showing the correct status of the kickstand on the dash though.
