Ionna charging network news
« on: March 04, 2024, 05:14:44 AM »

An article in my newspaper today (copy attached) says that BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kai, Mercedes and Stellantis are joining up to create a new L3 network along major highways in the U.S. The first charging station will open this year and the venture hopes to build 30K charging stations running by 2030. They plan to make them more reliable than the ones currently available and make payment more streamlined than what is currently the case for most L3 networks by allowing easy payment using just a credit card.

Ionna plans to provide shelters, refreshments and bathrooms at their facilities. Hopefully, the joint venture will succeed.

I find it amusing that only one of those manufacturers is American, three being European and three others being Asian. Wonder why they're focussing on the American charging network. It's not like that's their biggest market.

It doesn't really say if they intend on having the actual charging spaces covered with a roof or if they intend on having them pull through for someone pulling a trailer.  Place to walk your dog makes a big difference for some.

This could also be a trial balloon idea, just to see what shakes out in the way of grants and investors. As you know, a lot of these big EV ideas tend to vaporize after a while once the bean counters start counting beans.    ::)

By more reliable.
Do they mean they won't break down as often?  Has anyone done a root cause analysis yet as to WHY all these stations are breaking down?
or do they mean they'll actually fix the shit when it breaks down?

Grant may money may pay for an install, but might NOT pay for fixing it, again and again, time shall see how much more reliable they turn out to be.
