Looking for rear luggage rack
« on: December 03, 2023, 07:11:18 PM »

Hello all,
2023 ss9
I know its been discussed but maybe there is an update? Currently strapping a bag to the seat and I know it could mess up the seat sensor and its really hard to open due to it pulling on the spring. Is there a rack that can attach to the rear of these bikes available now?
Thanks!

I haven't seen any mass produced rear racks for the Ribelle or SS9 outside of Europe. I'm in the SF Bay Area and I ended up getting a custom made rack done at Sonic Moto in Oakland, CA. It's a small shop and while the quality was excellent, you do have to be patient and give them time to complete the work. I posted pics in another thread of what I had done.

I think I read somewhere that even the one(s) in Europe are sort of custom'ish jobs but I didn't investigate too much further so I could be wrong.

a rear rack would be really nice for the Ribelle,  strapping a bag on has it's issues.

I had the tank lock adapter on my Ribelle and the tank bag along with the top case & side cases let me carry quite a bit. I used that combination last year when I rode to Reno for the Rib Fest. Plenty of room for clothes and stuff for the 3 days I was there.

I did make sure to use the Givi WL901 rigid soft top case since it weights about half of what their hard cases weight. Plus it complimented the OEM side cases well.

How would that 901 case mount to the bike?  does it strap onto the frame the other bags do somehow or do you need to tie it down or what?

He had a rear Givi Monokey rack installed by Todd Chamberlin at Sonic Moto in Oakland, just like I did on my SS9. Great piece of kit!

Man i love all the baggage!!

I use my bike for delivery's sometimes, or taking packages to the UPS store.

I wonder if I could buy an SS9 with full bags like you got, and somehow write it off as a business expense ?  :)

or better yet an EGO Cliente Corsica, so I can get the faster like jimmy johns !!   ;D ;D ;D

He had a rear Givi Monokey rack installed

I for one would be keen to see how they installed the scaffold for this, exactly the solution I am after

Here's the link to my previous post (with picture links) for my top case mount (https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=12047.msg113910#msg113910). The 901 is a Givi monokey case and attaches to any Givi monokey rack. Givi has an XL08 rigid soft case but to me it looks like it belongs more on an SS9 or Experia than a Ribelle. It does hold a bit more than the WL901 though.

So the frame is a custom one, not off the shelf.  crap, now I have to find someone who could potentially make me one out here in Jax.

It's my understanding that a company in the Netherlands was selling these in batches, so that might be an option. The positioning of their top case was a little high for my liking, though, and cross-Atlantic shipping is always a pain. You might try giving Todd a call and see if he has the dimensions for the ones he's made before and would be willing to fabricate and ship. Their website's security certificate has expired, but the contact info is still valid AFAIK: https://sonicmotousa.com/#Contact-section

Hi, I was able to order a 2023 Esse Esse 9 and Ribelle with rear luggage racks.

These came as-is from the factory (or San Francisco warehouse), not added after delivery.

These side (rear) bags are available in the configurator's "Accessories" tab. https://configurator.energicamotor.com/us/configure/evaribelle_my2021/accessories

Side panniers ? rear luggage rack.

Those of us that are fortunate to be in jurisdictions where filtering is legal, a top box is so much easier than panniers, because narrower is better. It’s also much better for pillions that have an unreasonable fear of coming off the back. You can also remove a top box and just strap thing down on the carrier plate. Those with side bag please correct me if I’m wrong, but you can’t fit a helmet in them, can you?

Having said all that, saddlebags do look better than a top box. No idea which is more efficient, those with them have said you lose about 10% range with the panniers, but my untested logic is that a top box is already within the disturbed air behind the rider and shouldn’t create as much drag.
