2020 srs premium Charging issue
« on: November 03, 2023, 07:25:51 PM »

Hello all,
Ive tried to research this but so many things come up that does not pertain.
Ive had this bike for a month and 1500 miles it now has 2500 on the odo. I just got the new firmware update and now have the newer looking dash, love that part.
But now when I charge at home on 240v (we have 4 EVs) I only peak out at 3.0kw and it used to be 5.9. I have yet to go to a chargepoint, which I have a few times and got 5.9 but I cant understand why im not getting 5.9 anymore at home. Ill try chargepoint tomorrow.
Could it be the firmware? I almost thought the dealer removed my 2nd charger when they had it, kinda kidding and it is still there.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Joe

While the bike certainly can limit the charge rate, particularly during extreme temperatures, or cell imbalance, based on the number you provided, it sounds like you may have inadvertently switched your EVSE to 16A. I know I've done that myself.

Thanks for the reply.
I did verify our charger was unchanged at 24a and the temps have been 50-60f. Our cars and my other bike are all charging the same.
So odd and a bit concerning.

Its definitely starting to sound like you lost one of the chargers, either by firmware update failure, or simple hardware failure.

I really hope its not a hardware failure. If it is are there any good ways to diagnose?

If it was me I'd hold up paper next to both sets of vent fans and watch for airflow from both.

I also have a 2020 SR/S Premium and have seen similar results.  I don't yet have a 240V outlet available at home, but when I charge on 120V (using the TurboCord that came with the bike), the dash initially shows 6 Amps and 0.6 kilowatts, as if only one on-board changer was being used.  If I press and release the release button on the charging plug, the dash then shows 11 Amps and 1.2 kilowatts, which is what I expect.

Interesting, you have a button on your charge cable?
I dont have a button on mine, but I did try a lvl2 charger ive used a few time about 40 miles from my house with the exact same new results. 2.9 up to 3.0 max, when I was getting 5.9 there.
I have a call into the dealer/zero. Too much a coincidences to have the major, new FW update and this just now start.
I also have a 2023 Energica SS9 and I can dial in all kinds of charging levels.  I was hoping there were power adjustments on the Zero similar but im told there is not.
Ill wait to hear from Zero.

The release button is on the J1772 plug that attaches to the motorcycle.  It's the button you have to depress to disconnect the plug from the bike.  When I get the false charging indication I simply press and release the button without actually disconnecting the plug.

Thanks, I gave the release button a try, didnt help. Does seem like just the back charger is working, blowing air.
