It becomes an issue when a thief stops your tracker from transmitting when the bike goes into the back of a van, they park it down an alleyway between some houses, stick it in a garage, or maybe even a nice thick cover out in the countryside would be enough. Shit it would have a hard enough time just transmitting through the plastic and metal on the bike.

It's been that way for decades though.  GPS tech has not really changed too much over the years.
People cry about the gps thingie in their phone, wailing the govt is using it to track them.  Here's a news flash,with all the cell towers, they can track you much more accurately via your cell signal than the GPS puck you have in your phone.

still, a good military grade GPS unit can pin you down to a foot or so, actually less.  This is awesome when in a boat.  Navigating the back creeks in the middle of the night, or trying to find that spot you marked.  Adjust the fix offset and you are good to go.

They probably will let toys talk on the lower freq's to wireless routers / modems, which would be operating at more 'wifi' ranges anyways, to grab all the short distance in range stuff, then uplinking the data to the higher freq for transmission.  I can see them also using a hopping tech so it can just pip pip and relay from unit to unit too.  Spread spectrum also comes into mind.

I have an old analog radio shack brick cell phone from the 1980's and it still turns on.  I should fire it up and try to talk just to see what happens and hope the NSA, Navy Seals and Swat team don't show up thinking I got hunter bidens laptop
