Hello, New Strike R
« on: July 02, 2023, 06:05:53 AM »

Took delivery of a new Strike R from Lightning.
Perhaps you would all be interested in the attached image.
Visited Lighting and spoke with Richard.  Sweet operation and innovations.

I don't know what I'm more surprised at Hobnail, seeing that you joined or that you got a Strike, which has it's own set of surprises.

I guess you got tired of waiting or lost faith with the other option.  Let everybody know how this thing does.

Thanks NEW2elec.  Long see no time, or something like that.
2025 is a long time away, which is my estimate of perhaps seeing a gold color motorcycle.  The Lightning story is quite a bunny trail, but after speaking with Lightning (spent the day in California) I was convinced of their commitment to excellence and what they are trying to achieve.  Kindred spirits, if you will. Test rode it out there, and that was the clincher.  At any rate, anything can happen by 2025 so I am keeping my options available.  Only a short blast here at home, as paperwork isn't 100%.  I will probably ride around on the fourth, and to work on Wednesday.  I will post a review when I get some miles.

It will be interesting to see how this bike goes after a few years, especially with all that Chineseium in it!

All those extra KW for the battery and only 30 Lb more?  How is that?  Unless they already have the big battery in and are just opening it up a bit more or something like that.

I love the 6k charging.  Their claim to wind tunnel, against an unfaired bike is pretty misleading, I mean that's a no brainer, why didn't they compare theirs to the 'other brands' bike that had fairings like theirs did? or were they afraid of what it would show and it would kill off that selling point?

At the end of the day though,  I know what the reputation is for Italian racing material, and the reputation for Chineese crap is.  It will be interesting to see how it works.

One final note, they are getting all their stuff from china, except the shell, and putting it together here in the US, that should qualify them for any rebates etc the govt is shelling out.  Hopefully Energica can get something like that going so their bikes qualify too.

They don't have a wind tunnel. They have a "my first wind tunnel for science lovers" model that's a couple feet long and fits on a desk.

edit- and this bike may be the first but I've not seen a Strike with more than 3kW AC charging as of yet.

Oh no! Little snowflake melted almost immediately!

It's almost like all owners are preconditioned by Richard to expect persecution which only reinforces zealotry. This would be a fun case study to publish for a behavioral psychologist.

Has it changed since then?

Wow, so we are only allowed to gush and come all over ourselves at the mention of your bike, but not allowed to mention any honest concerns or questions?

grow a set, use them as saddle bags to carry your fragile ego in.

I have no idea. I just thought that it was a piece of important information that the Strike article was about 4 years old and might not reflect the current design, specifications, price and availability of the Strike.

Given we have not seen any new articles, which would really behoove them to write if things changed / got better, one is left to pretty much assume what was said then, stands now.

I wish them luck, any competition in this market only leads to better products for everyone overall, but for that to happen, one must be able to have a conversation and answer 'tough questions' without throwing a foot stomper and snivelling off to fairy land.

people are going to be skeptical, they have seen too many scams and promises, turn into road apples.  Welcome to the real world. It's not all lollipops and cupcakes and season passes to the unicorn petting zoo.

Makes me wonder if the OP was a real person, or a "Hatfield Plant" to test the waters...

He is real.  He wants to stay positive in his outlook though.

He never talked about looking into Lightning.  I hope it works out for him but I'm concerned with Lightning's past results of course.

So if he does stay away we lost the only owner of a Strike who was posting here so we won't know if they are improving things or not.
