Lic Plate Bracket Broke!
« on: June 18, 2023, 03:34:27 AM »

I didn't think this could happen. I didn't back into anything or anything like that. I just happened to notice this at my last charge stop today.

This is my 2020 Esse Esse 9.

Lucky I had my helmet cable clock to tie things down until I get home. I will make sure I always have large tie wraps with me from now on for when I need to tie things down.

I will try to come up with a decent permanent fix soon.

Has this happened to any others here?

See attached.

My "temp fix" tonight came out better than I expected. I am only using zip ties to hold things. I may just consider this a permanent fix and carty a bunch of zip ties with the bike as I should anyway.

All tested, seat up, wheel clearance, lic plate light, both turn sigs. All looks fine. Ready to ride again.

Energica should send you a replacement bracket.  How could that thing just fail?

It's 3 years old.  How much weight has he had on the thing in the way of luggage on a bag sitting on it going bumpity bump bump over the years?  Granted that should not just break like that, does it look rusted or what at the point where it broke off?  Id be real interested to see a close up of the metal fatigue and be able to x ray - gamma spec it.    Just me being geeky.

I did have a helmet lock on the lic plate, so perhaps the extra weight had something to do with it. But that was all the extra weight it had.

Anyway, the way I have it now is okay with me, And this way, I do not have to worry about it breaking again, other than a tie wrap breaking perhaps someday, but that will not cause any problems.

Today, I removed all the tie-wraps that were used to hold things and installed small brackets. I also managed to remount my helmet lock and reinstall all the stock reflectors, but at different locations. It is not a bit flimsy, rock solid. This has to be more reliable than Energica's method. I now don't have to worry about it happening again. I would not put back on the stock stuff even if Energica did ship me such, I trust what I did a lot more.

That's a curious incident indeed!
In November some dumb guy bumped me from behind when I was waiting at a red traffic light. The licence plate holder was bent but did no break. So, in your case I suspect faulty material plus fatigue failure.

IMO the holder looks sh*t anyway (like on so many other bikes) and the mounted OEM splash guard doesn't function very well anyway.

Makes me ask if someone here replaced the original against a better looking one.

You should probably rebuild your entire bike at this point, it is a few years old and im sure about to fall apart any minute.

After this broke, I don't trust the OEM brackets. Now I will be looking at the rear of my Experia often, which looks like the same type of setup as on the SS9. It too has the lic plate helmet lock, if that extra weight has anything to do with it.

But if it does, the saddlebag brackets make it easy to change as I did on my SS9.

Me Too!

I was convinced that someone vandalized my bike, how could it possibly just happen spontaneously?
But now I’m seeing this pattern…
Design flaw??

I assume it happened while you were riding, as with mine. Broke, not vandalized.

You can get replacements and even a shorter profile one at AF1 racing.  An authorized Energica dealer out of Texas.
https://www.af1racing.com/rglp0333bk-energica-tail-tidy-license-plate-re-locator-for-energica-rglp0333bk

call them on the phone, they might be able to get you a better deal on just the piece you need instead of the whole assembly.
