So the old (LCD/monochrome) dash can be replaced by the new TFT dash.   Do you think that one has a replaceable (or a rechargeable) battery?   AF1 shows the old dash for $153.85.    New TFT is $269.23 but you also need a new bracket for $56.00.

The manual only says that it's non-replaceable, however that could just mean that it's soldered in place so you may be able to get a replacement put in.
It's welded in, it is aluminum and cannot easily be soldered to.

My battery is very dead. Less than 0.5 VDC, should be above 3.0.

So I decided to replace the "nonreplaceable" battery by a different method. First step is to order these thingies.

The remove the welded-on stuff and solder on some wires direct to the PC board:

Another thing. The display must be disconnected from inside while still on the bike.

Many screws around unit. Most are little Torex screws.

Headlight must be removed. Remove the two nuts.

Take unit apart and then unplug the cable from its two connectors inside the unit.

Removing the thing was the more difficult part. Replacing the battery doesn't look all that difficult, but it will not be the same. It will be replaceable from now on in its own battery holder per above message.

Those little battery holders come in real handy.
ive used them to refurb some slot machines.  The e prom / main board battery was like a little stack of Sox heat shrunk into a little tube bundle.  When it craps, the board is pretty useless the moment power goesout all memory is lost.  Can't really find the OEM's so a lith like that is essentially a perfect replacement volt wise, but fitting???  THAT solves the prob, unsolder the old battery from the mother board and solder in those leads and viola you are good to go with a battery that is entirely replaceable!

I finally made it back to my house in Auburn, CA so I could complete my replacement of the non-replaceable clock battery. The job is completed. I only need to put my windscreen back on. But it all works. Keeps perfect time when the bike is shut off and on again in an hour and now there are now no errors (a bad clock battery will give us an "EEE" on bootup, but the bike will ride as well as ever).

Now my non-replaceable clock battery can now be replaced in one minute or so after my windscreen is removed:

Better yet. I put back on the windscreen.  Windscreen does not need to be removed to replace the clock battery. There is plenty of room, yet the screen will protect the battery from the rain.
