I just received this note from the Energica delaer in RoseVille WRT the Centerstand:


"Hi Don,
I finally heard from them today.  They do not have one currently available, but plan to-just no eta for now.  They plan on sending us a newsletter out when this happens.

I asked her in a reply if it is supposed to come with the LE or if it is an extra. When I hear something, I will post it here.

BTW. the chain seemed quite loose the day I received the bike. I think it is quite a bit looser than that 1.2" (30mm) spec.

At 600 miles, I will stop riding the bike and just wait for the centerstand to service it myself.  I have enough other bikes to ride.

If my chain is loose on delivery, I'll end up taking it back to get worked on as it wasn't ready on delivery.

My chain was loose as well but still within tolerance.

Important finding: It was factory-lubed, but not by 100%. Here in Germany, it is common that the municipal administration sends out trucks to spread some salt on the streets whenever the are frozen - so even when you ride in dry conditions, there‘s still some salt dust. With a bit of street damp, this converts into an aggressive solution that demonstrated on a few chain links where the lube was not applied perfectly. So I already had to clean it to get the rust particles off and lube it again. Thank god I do have bobbins installed and a rear stand so I can spin the wheel. Finally, I‘m also waiting on my center stand.

BTW: My dealer called last week - the factory-printed manuals arrived.

You should always lube a new chain immediately. They basicly always come with waxy shit on them that comes off with the first bit of moisture and leaves your chain to rust.

That is odd about the loose chain. I have bought over 20 chain-driven motorcycles over the past 60 years and every one of them had a chain that was too tight when new. It is like the factory or dealership expected the chain to loosen up by the 600 mile service so they wouldn't have to adjust them then.

And here in Reno, it is the opposite with Zeros when compared to my Experia.  Zeros gives us all these torques and specs that their own factory doesn't go by. Everything on their bikes are overtightened when new. I have broken tools trying to remove some of those bolts. Anyway, that has been my own experience on my 2017 Zeros.


The drive belt on new Zeros is no exception. Way overtightened. Not even close to spec at the ones I checked here in Reno at Eurocycles on new Zeros. The only one that was correct, was the used Zero Black Forest they had for sale. The new ones I would not even ride home, I would be afraid the belt would snap. And that has happened at dealers with the Zero SR/F. I saw a youtube on that. See here.


But with Zeros, I don't know where the rear wheel is put on. Perhaps at the dealer. The Energicas are ready to ride when the dealer receives them, unlike most bikes.

I wouldn't say "ready to ride"...but not too far away, things like mirrors, luggage racks & luggage and windscreen...and any other customer requested accessories that may need to be fitted...but yes, 95% assembled for sure.

Yep. I just remembered my dealer had to change the trunk lock to match my key for the side cases and do some other small stuff such as that. But they do so little that there are no "setup fees" with Energica, unlike with other new bikes.

That was the case with my 2018 S. The belt was very tight and the front axle bolt was so tight that I thought I would never get it off. I needed lots of penetrating oil and had to resort to an electric impact driver to finally get it to release.

I heard from my dealer today WRT the centerstand. 


I was told it is an OPTIONAL EXTRA on all models, even the LE.

That's because Energica introduced it before full development, sorry for the negativity but the precedence set by BMW in the /6, /7, R11 era will be difficult to match even BMW has gone backwards and compromised on robustness in the R12 (water cooled) series and that's because it's a difficult design to get right from a longevity / warranty perspective.

I think many of us believe that center stands are worth their weight in gold.  And apparently so do many motorcycle manufacturers.
