I have a 2020 SR/S with dash firmware version 6V26, the version that originally came with the motorcycle.   The last item in the Preferences menu is Automatic Updates.  The option cannot be toggled from No to Yes, and it is not discussed in the Owner's Manual, nor in the 2021 Owner's Manual.  It is discussed in the 2022 manual, but that manual describes dash firmware version 8V33, the version required to use the new Cypher III features.

I have tried to get Zero Tech Support to tell me a) how to use the option if it is actually available and b) why the option appears in the menu if it is NOT available, but I get the usual Zero shoulder shrug response.  Has anyone on the forum been able to use this feature with dash 6V26?

I think this is disabled if you don't have cellular connection working. I'm not 100% sure on this as I had the cellular connection fixed by my dealer at the same time I had the dash firmware upgraded.

That was one of the BS suggestions I got from Zero.  However, the Cellular preference on my bike shows Connected.

Doesn’t matter what it says. I can toggle it and set it to no updates. Still prompts me to update…

Unless you are interested in buying "upgrades" from Zero, or want to use that awful navigation thing that never worked every time I tried it until I gave up, you might consider keeping that original display.

IMO its better, clearer, and I wish I had it back. Mine was changed without asking when it was at the dealer after a firmware update bricked my bike and they had to take it back to the shop to bring it back to life.

Personally, I havent benefitted at all from the updates. All it did was cause headaches with all the fails and eventually it stopped the bike working and I was without it for weeks. AND while it was there the dealer broke plastic on the bike and then lied, saying I had done it.

What I do now is I have accepted the prompt to update as a normal start up screen on the bike and I ignore it every time. You dont even have to click it away; it disappears when you arm the bike to ride.

Just some thoughts. I mean... look at your experience now. Are you having fun? Is it making your Zero ownership experience better?

I have mentioned this several times before, but my daughter's 2014S with PT hasn't had an firmware update since it left the factory and it still runs great without any issues. My 2018 model has received all of the firmware updates available and I have never noticed the difference in the way it performs.  It kind of makes me wonder what is the point of all of the firmware updates.

If things work they way they should then the original firmware should be OK and updates should just be to fix bugs that occur so rarely that they weren't noticed before lots of bikes were being used by lots of customers in different ways. I'm not saying that's the case with Zero, but it is possible that firmware updates are sensible to do but you wouldn't notice them.
