2022 Zero Fx 8300 lumen LED high beam
« on: January 27, 2023, 08:28:39 PM »

After trying Led bulbs with very poor results I decided to make my own high power LED headlamp for my Zero Fx. My design outputs 8300 lumens at 43.6watts LED power with 47.2 watts input. With  a larger 78mm projector lens using the stock mounting bracket. Also has adaptive dimming for up to 30% dimming for oncoming vehicles. Material cost came to about $140.00, I did all of the machining and overall design. Very pleased!

Looking at your first image I’m not seeing a cut-off line so wondering if incoming vehicle’s will be negatively impacted?
If not, we’ll done.

When you mention "active dimming," do you really mean just dimming or is it an active array that can cut the light that would otherwise face into oncoming traffic like some of the nicer vehicles that come out Europe? If the former, at 70% of 8300 lumen, you're still blinding oncoming drivers.

Active dimming has been improved for up to about 80% dimming now using a lens photocell as seen mounted between the head lamps.
Also used the stock high beam lens for a narrower beam in the final configuration.
During day time it outputs about 25-40%, for about 2000-3320 lumens still much brighter than the stock halogen.
There is no cut off for the high beam only the low beam uses the cutoff which has not been modified yet.

Hey,

I am not sure you two mean the same when you say "cutoff". The guy from the second post meant a "cutoff line", basically a certain angle above which there is no light coming out, as to not blind other drivers. That is much more important than some active cutoff. I like your build but you must definitly take care of the blinding problem!:)
