Well the whole supply chain shortage thing is putting all industries to a new level of challenge. In Tier-1 suppliers for Automotive, lots of management meetings is about the best moment to disclose a new shortage to the OEM. Sometimes this customer feedback is being done too late. I bet the same is valid for all Tier-n‘s. No wonder that even major OEMs struggle to control the production or get the full picture. In 2020 (Covid) and 2021 (chip-shortage), many suppliers have compensated shortages by allowing premium freights and now have issues reclaiming costs with the OEMs. This year 2022, rising energy cost and raw mat prices again add to the complexity. Very little is fixed, many contracts are in re-negotiation with delays depending on the outcome.
I haven’t seen specific delivery week commitments communicated by any OEM since the last two years. Some OEMs master communication better, others worse, many are still not prepared and fall silent. I think that a statement like „dear customer, we simply don‘t know“ (Don you mentioned s.th. similar some time ago) would be a professional way of dealing with it. But I can‘t really blame anyone who doesn‘t…
