Non OEN level 2 charger
« on: July 11, 2022, 01:57:48 AM »

Hello !

I have seen level 2 16 A type 2 charger that are much cheaper than the 500 € option sold by Zero : https://www.amazon.fr/N-C-IEC62196-Chargeur-Portable-%C3%A9lectrique/dp/B08WWS1HHL/ref=sr_1_136_sspa

Did someone try to use one of these on a new SR / SRF ? Any advice ?

I am happily using a couple of quite similar ones to the one you linked. I have a smart one at home (wattmeter & timer), a "pocket" one I take along for overnight trips, I left a cheap one at work, another cheap one by close relatives. This way I can "destination" charge without having to burden myself with bulky plastic boxes and cables. I am using none from Zero, all third party items, including the type 2 to type 2 cable which I tinkered it myself to save on both space and weight.

Thanks !

Any reference for a cheap level 2 to level 2 cable ?
The 220 V level charger costs 130 €, and simple cable seem to cost the same...

I bought the cheapest one I could find online just to have the two Mennekes plugs as a realized it would come cheaper than buying the plugs separately. I think I ordered one at AliExpress. I then replaced the bulky 5 m cable specified to let 22 kW pass through with one good enough for my 6 kW need, and that at about 2 m long. This translates into 3 x 1.5 mm2 for the phases and 1 mm2 for the other lines. If you search for "type 2 cable" in this forum you should be able to find more detailed information. 1.5 mm2 is fine for 6 kW but if you can charge at 12 kW then you would need at least 2 mm2 phase wires otherwise on a hot summer day the plastic of your cable might begin to melt.
