SR/S Firmware update MBB V23 went very bad (Solved)
« on: May 26, 2022, 02:34:02 AM »

Hi. I did a firmware update check on the Next Gen app for my 2020 SR/S and yes, there was an update available for the MBB V23. I started the process and everything went smoothly and the firmware loaded up until the end (progress bar fully completed). I heard a click in the bike and then nothing for a long time (closed to 30 minutes.) I decided to turn the key OFF and it did nothing.. stayed ON!!. Turned the key On and OFF, no response, The display is frozen and I do not hear the contactor. Disconnected the 12 v Battery, the display turned OFF but as soon I reconnect the battery, the display turned ON with SOC to 0% ( it was at 58% when I started the update). Again, nothing happens if I turn the key ON.
Is this a case for a service call or is there something I can do to reset to normal?
Thanks in advance

I had a similar behavior when i installed v19, where the SoC went from 90% or so to 0% after the update. I turned off the bike and let it sit for a while (couple of hours or so)., then the SoC came back up to the expected number.
However, I did not have the other issues you mentioned here. But if your bike remains in this state, I would suggest contacting a dealer.

Oh BTW, the odometer has returned to 0, yes 0 km. Like a brand new bike. The display is still ON (unless I disconnect the 12v battery) and the key on-off does nothing.  Is this bike bricked?? I am totally confused.

pargil,

My bike had exactly the symptoms you described after I took it out of winter storage.  The MBB had to be replaced and the odometer had to be reset by the dealer.

When you say the odometer had to be reset by the dealer, you mean to the last reading or 0? I am still wondering why a simple firmware update would render the MBB useless. The bike was running perfectly well before. Maybe, I should have resisted starting the update. All perequisites were met and I never suspected this kind of result. Over the winter, I did the upgrade from V19 to V21 without any problems. The bike is still under warranty but I am afraid it will take some time before it is fixed. My dealer is 260Km away, so a trip with the trailer is required....arrrh.

I appreciate all your inputs or ideas.

After over 20 attempts my bike finally updated from v20 to v23. I'm glad to say it seemed to go OK - apart from the reapperance of Canyon mode of course. (Whoever wrote the Zero app shoudl be thrown into a canyon if they love them so much.)

I hope Zero fixes your bike quickly.

pargil,

After the MBB was replaced, my dealer had to reset the odometer to its last known value (my best recollection).  Prior to the MBB replacement I had all zeros on the dash (SOC, Range, ODO, Trip Meter).

What you described is exactly what I have. Can you tell me if the repair took a long time? Was the MBB board quickly delivered to the dealer from Zero?

Thanks

Swapping the MBB was relatively easy; the time consuming part was removing and reinstalling all the bodywork.  It took a few days to diagnose the problem since my dealer had to get on the phone and work with Zero's technicians.  Once the MBB was found faulty, Zero got the replacement to my dealer within a day or two.

Really? I was checking something yesterday and took the "tank" off as one unit - six screws and 5 minutes. The MBB was just sitting there attached to the right side of the storage bin. The wiring was easily accessible too.

For those of you having problems completing the update, are you attempting the update using the phone app or are you trying to do an over-the-air update after receiving a message on the dash that an update is available?  I never got a dash notification and, like many of you, tried multiple times using the phone app before the update was successful.

I did not receive notifications on the dash. Only after checked the firmware update menu in the app, that I proceeded with the update over wifi with the very bad outcome that I described earler in this thread. BTW, I have an appointment with my dealer next Thursday and I will keep you posted on the diagnostics. Current state is the dash can only be shut-off if I disconnect the 12v battery with all readings reset to 0. Turning the key on and off does nothing. MBB seems to be completely dead or software corrupted.

the update worked on my srs 2021
but I didn't notice any difference.
Unfortunately, I still have my 3G connection problem.
