I'm really enjoying everything about my beautiful bikes but I'm curious how many miles it is common for a dealer to put on a motorcycle when it is in for repairs. My dealer put 89 miles on my Energica and I received only one key when I went to pick it up. When I asked, I was told that the second one was probably still with the salesman, who was apparently absent.

It depends, why your bike was in for repairs?
If they were just doing a standard service on the bike that number seems a bit excessive to me. However if they were diagnosing a specific issue they may have needed to do multiple test rides on the bike to isolate and verify the issue was corrected.

Not sure why they would separate the keys, that said why did you leave multiple keys with the dealer?

A new bike comes with 3 keys: One orange master key and 2 green user keys. All three should be in your possession. The orange key is used to program the anti-theft device in the user keys, so if somebody else has that key then your keys can be made useless. Also, if you lose your key now you're SOL because without the orange one you cannot invalidate the old key and learn in new keys without replacing the unit that takes care of the security of the bike.

If you did not buy the bike new then it's a crap shoot. If someone has the plan to sell you the bike and then get it back you're SOL.

I am told that the mileage was in retaliation for posting about my experience with the salesman earlier on this forum, and you can see his attitude about that from my other posts. My energica is new and literally the prettiest vehicle candy on the planet, andwas in the shop for a light body scratch, which required a simple plastic replacement.

The dealership called today and says they need me to come in and sign more documents, 2+ months after the purchase date. They failed to register the vehicle during that entire time.

Is the dealer covering the plastic panel for you... I mean wouldn't that be fair?
How did they get plates on that beast without initial paperwork?

I'd be happy to learn they took it for more than 5 ft to verify their repairs. It's very uncommon in automotive repair industry for thorough test rides. I've had to take 8 vehicles back to more than 20 shops in my lifetime because they didn't fix the initial problem or their repair was not tested and failed. Perhaps repair shops suck in Virginia/Washington DC. Also I expect it was to test your battery out? Only way to know for sure is to get a full discharge...

Any tire wear? Before accusing the dealer I'd want to be as sure as I could that this wasn't something that was bizarrely done while the bike was on rear stands and just having the throttle opened.

Though 80+ miles does seem incredibly unlikely. What a frustrating situation; I'm sorry on your behalf.

That's ridiculous.  I imagine Energica dealers are few and far between, I don't know what you could do until another dealer pops up near you.  I would try and call Energica rep and see what they may suggest.  IDK.  Good luck.

Thanks guys. Despite working my life to translate for and help those in third world countries manage their water resources, my early balding and multicultural tattoos makes me come across as a skinny little skinhead to many. This salesman acts similarly to others that have made that assumption about me. I'm sure he will calm down eventually.
