Zero FX Rapid Charger Question
« on: May 07, 2022, 09:03:45 PM »

Hi all,

I did a bunch of searching and came up empty, though I may have overlooked something...

Anyway, looking for the best option for rapid charging a 2019 FX 7.2. I'm looking for something I can either take with me, or leave at work so that I can get home after a roughly 40mi commute.

It seems like this may be the best option for onboard charging, since I don't have the removable battery packs. It's not clear to me how this is installed, but I suspect it's fairly self explanatory once received.

TIA

While there are technically more options, the main ones you have are the Zero charger (similar to the one you linked) and the Elcon 1.8 and 3.3 chargers. I chose the 1.8 setup. https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=11799.0

Let me know if you have any other questions after you look through that thread.

What you have linked doesn't really get installed on the bike unless you jerryrig something up such as a rear rack with a box or side bags.  Here is a link to a thread where an owner did just that.
https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=11286.msg105971#msg105971

The accessory charger is really intended to sit in your garage, be plugged in when you need it and the cable be plugged into the bike's power pack connector.

See pages 5.8 through 5.10 in the owner's manual PDF linked below:

Thank you. I'm clear that this option, and other exist. What isn't clear is how/where you mount said options. i.e. on bike, in a luggage box on the back of the bike, etc. I think I've found my answers at this point.

The charging topic has really been beaten to death on this forum, for all types of Zero bikes. I'm surprised your search came up empty.

What MVetter was showing you was the Delta-Q charger that is sold as a factory accessory by Zero, its clearly an offboard charger that you either travel with in some kind of carrying case or you just leave at a destination (home is often the place for this). Its also the same charger you referenced, just sold by Zero.

Thanks. I find the search function on this particular forum to be pretty useless, mostly displaying irrelevant topics. I probably gave up too quickly. Typical millennial.

I suppose the reason I haven’t seen what I’m looking for is because it doesn’t exist. I.e. a more portable, not mounted in a luggage box solution.

Appreciate your response.

Yeah, I get that. Again, I was probably looking for something that didn’t exist, thus the question. It seems clear at this point that all of the options are bulky off board chargers.

I suspect if I was riding that today the old lady in the car next to me in the parking lot wouldn't have said "nice motorcycle".    ;)

Hey, @treitz28
I hope it's no problem that I mention here that I am selling two 3.3kW Elcons in the buy/sell/trade area of this forum, check it out. Otherwise just delete my post here:)
I squeezed the two chargers into the smallest package I could, with detachable cables and different fans.
