Hi all,

New member from Australia here. I have acquired a couple of battery packs from 2014 and 2015 Zero Motorbikes from the previous distributor here in Australia. I am trying to see if they can be saved and re-purposed for something else, or if they are garbage.

I have a 11.4kWh pack from a 2014; a 12.5kWh pack from a 2015 and a 3kWh "powertank". Each were leftover at the distributor when they wound up their Australian operations. They said they may have had a faulty BMS (or suspected faulty), or they may have just been fine...

Is there an easy way to take a voltage reading? I'm used to dealing with used Tesla battery modules which are quite easy to take voltages.

If I can quickly see if the voltage is completely dead, or if it is over 60V then there might be a chance to salvage some use out of them. Do I need to completely remove the outer casing to get to the +ve and -ve terminals?

I don't have experience with the old Zero packs, but one of the two orange wires ( the battery side one ) that are going to the broken fuse holder should have the + of the battery on all the time, and the negative is on the negative side of the big brown connector that in the picture, unfortunately, it seems to be disconnected from battery buss bars.
You should be able to see the individual cell voltages at the BMS connector. Personally, I doubt that you will be able to use them, if only one cell is bad, the whole pack is doomed, because they are in glued in epoxy, so they can't be serviced/replaced at cell level.
