Where to put the charging cable on SR/F?
« on: March 01, 2022, 08:03:56 AM »

So, for the coming season I am considering getting the powertank for my Zero SR/F, but then I will need some alternative way to store the charging cable which now fits snuggly in the storage compartment. From my understanding this storage area will be completely gone though.

Of course I could put the cable in a backpack, but it is so much easier to just have it available on the MC always without having to worry about dragging along extra luggage.

Anyone faced the same problem, and found a good solution? :)

The only place I could come up with was a top case, which ruins the slim siloutte of the SR/F.

I actually carry my cable in a backback. It's actually not that bad.

I tried to carry it in a backpack, but the bloody thing is heavy. So now I stick it in a tankbag being used as a tailpack and bungee it over the pillion seat like a poor man's topbox. There's a certain sort of cachet in strapping things to bikes and zooming off into the middle of nowhere :)

Cas :)

I found Zero offers this:

https://usercontent.one/wp/shop.frejfaxe.se/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ZeroSRF_LuggageRackKitInstallationInstructions.pdf

Which does not look half bad. Especially if you can remove the top box.

But I wonder if this makes it hard for a passenger to sit comfortably? Anyone has experience with this?

Hi Tony,

i‘ve got the complete Luggage-Rack with Topcase on my SR/F, works fine for a journey or shorter trips. I drove with a passenger and the side cases only, was no problem for her.
But I‘m also looking for a solution to only carry the cable, especially if you‘re only driving around and a little bit faster, over 130 km/h 🤓

Greetings from Germany

Be very wary of adding a Power Tank after owning the bike for a while. You're introducing fresh, new battery cells into a pool of used cells. Due to their nature of being new and in ideal health, the controller will absolutely hammer the shit out of them inadvertently and increase the risk of problems and de-synching. Basically you want all cells to age similarly. If you are insistent upon a Power Tank, try to find a used one to more closely match the use of your monolith.

Here in the UK the charging stations I've seen all have a captive cable - so no need to lug one around with you. Is that not the case elsewhere in the world? (Unless you mean one for charging from a normal outlet.)

All the charging stations I've seen have a socket and no cable, I do know that ones with a hard wired cable exist but I've yet to see one. I have a Mennekes to mains plug adapter but I'd be screwed if I came across one with a cable.

Unfortunately most of the charging stations in Norway require you to bring your own cable, and in my area I have never even seen one with a cable.

Yes, topcase only looks bad in the SR/F, if you asked me. For daily trips etc. i always take the side cases, but most of the time i dont need so much space. So a solution for the cable only would be great. ;-)
For my Journey to the baltic sea and northsea i also took a rollbag next to the topcase. Looks ok. 😅

In Germany, if you‘re not on a DC Fast Charging Station, i would estimate 9/10 chargingstations require a cable and dont have one. 😒

My SRS came with the side and top cases already installed. There is no issue with my daughters riding on the back with respect to the side cases.... they are far enough back to be out of the way of the legs. Actually the top case might be a kind of safety so they don't tip off the back. It has an option to add a padded backrest to the top case too but I didn't get it.

Thanks, that is useful info. I often worry about my passengers as the acceleration on an electric MC surely can make them fall off if they do not cling on, which can be awkward if the passenger is not in a hugging-enabled relationship. :P
