AT&T 3G Shutdown's Impact on Remote Connect

I saw that today AT&T are shutting down their 3G network in the US today. As best as I can tell, they are the primary carrier for Zero in the US. For those of you without a 2022 FST bike(SR/F and SR/S) and who haven't received a new CCM, it's likely all or most of the remaining remote connect will cease functioning today.

Zero tells me they have a replacement 4G part, but I have seen no announcements about whether old bikes will be retrofitted or an upgrade covered under warranty. I guess owner's can reach out to their dealers or Zero HQ if they're interested in preserving that functionality.

Hopefully, cell phone connection to the internet will still work.  ???

Starcom makes the CCM and pays carrier's like AT&T to route their data. The CCM actually uses GPRS (2G), which worked on 3G so it may work on 4G also.

Unless I'm misreading what GPRS is, it's a method of creating packets for transfer over a cellular network. If the network itself is offline, having packets probably won't matter. I'll be curious to hear from people if it still works tomorrow.

GPRS may work on the 4g network which is online. AT&T may also sell/rent the 3G network infrastructure. Just shutting down GPRS would cause a very large disruption to many large companies.  Companies like Starcom would go out of business so I'm sure they already have a plan to keep GPRS working for a while.

I might add that I don't get cell reception at my home and all of my communication and updates for my Zero go via the cell phone connection to the internet. So I have not had 2, 3 or 4G access and that has never been a problem with updating my 2018 S.

I might add that I don't get cell reception at my home and all of my communication and updates for my Zero go via the cell phone connection to the internet. So I have not had 2, 3 or 4G access and that has never been a problem with updating my 2018 S.

The Gen3 bikes have a built-in cellular modem.  I don't know if they can connect to a WAP like a regular cell phone...  Our "primitive" bikes required a bluetooth connection to a cellphone in order to get updates.  There are advantages to not jumping on the "Bleeding Edge" bandwagon sometimes.

I will agree with that statement. Every time I get on that bandwagon i get in trouble.  ;)
