A tidy write up in Road and Track

A little write up in Road and Track, by Brendan McAleer

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a38323963/damon-hypersport-motorcycle/

A few highlights:
You can daisy chain charge the bikes.  IOW three bikes connected up to one (CCS) charger.
And from the write up,  "Damon has imminent plans to reveal a second model, an electric rival to the likes of the city-oriented Ducati Monster."

" Damon has secured enough deposits from potential customers to account for 15 percent of the U.S. sport-bike market"

That is actually a killer feature.

"Speaking of packs, Damon’s bikes are designed to be daisy-chained: You and two friends all can plug into a single charger."

That is all I see in the article.  I just assumed it would be level 2.  Is it stated at Damon's site this is for CCS or DC fast chargin?  Having your group all recharging at the same rate as opposed to taking turns would seem to be quite important to the packs of bikes I see going by.

Well Fran K that's a good point.
The website talks about it being V to H capable so it might limit the output to 6.6kW.
So in theory you could have the Damon plugged into a CCS charger and maybe let a Zero or an Energica suckle at their respective onboard charger capability.   ;)

This is the first I've heard of this feature.  Damon is going to CES in Las Vegas in January so they may be planning to show all of this off there.

<Sigh>  Yet another "Gee Wow" article about a bike nobody owns or can ride yet.  Wake me up when they're on dealership floors.  Otherwise, they're Canada's version of Lightning.

See, you haven't been paying attention.  They will use the "no dealership" model like Tesla.  So you'll sleep your life away.

I'll say this, if they don't deliver bikes to customers next year I'll post that all of the neigh sayers were right.
But they have a HQ, they are working on their factory, they have 70 people and growing on staff.
I mean it's a new company coming out with a new product during a pandemic, so expect delays.

I really think these bikes will be head and shoulders superior to all the other bikes barring some kind of major advancement announcement.

No doubt! I pay attention to the press releases and remember Damon's Industry Leading 200Wh/kg battery packs as seen here: https://blog.damon.com/the-numbers-behind-damons-motorcycle-powertrain/

Even with a 200Wh/kg energy pack – the densest in ground transportation – our team of 30 designers and engineers has not stopped from pursuing every opportunity to increase our motorcycle’s range and performance.

Quite the feat!!!! Now that Zero's newest announcement raises their cell packs from their 2018 numbers of 260Wh/kg to 330Wh/kg, how will Damon's unparalleled 200Wh/kg cells catch up? Only time will tell!

A bike that electronically complex, with ground-breaking technology (in their own words) with NO DEALERSHIP SUPPORT?  Hard pass...  Unless the purchase price includes lifetime technician support being dispatched to your house I'm not interested.

Sorry, again it's all in this section, no dealer sales (just like Tesla) but service center agreements and yes some house calls in some areas.

I’m sure they just mixed up their lbs and kg’s like NASA did with the Mars Climate Orbiter. They’re so brainy, they’re just like actual rocket scientists!

Morgan is of course being sarcastic.  It would of course be true a 2170 cell would weigh more than a pouch cell.
But this doesn't take into account what else has to be done to finish the "battery" build.
A fragile plastic bag needs a lot of protection, where as a metal cylinder doesn't need as much.

The bottom line is how far will bike A go vs bike B.

The question will be if the 3 brands are riding at the same speed on the same road which one will go farthest?
A really light aero bike could go farther with a smaller battery than a heavy upright brick of a bike with a bigger battery.

I'd love to see a Damon HS vs a Ego+ RS vs a Zero SRS (with power tank and all battery pay walls dropped) in a side by side range test.
Maybe next year we could do that.   :)
