I think the new 2022 FX model would be a better deal in the long run. It has good performance, weighs under 300 pounds, is freeway legal and has some other features, like the TFT display and Cyber II system that the older model doesn't have. Plus, it has a 2-year warranty and 5-years on the battery. While it is not cheap at $12K, you can get a 10% deduction off of your federal tax return and a few states (like California) also offer cash rebates to anyone buying a new EV. But buying used will not get you either of those rebates. Finally, the new model will have a much greater resale value in the future than any 2015 Zero. Before making your decision more research will be worthwhile.

Definitely leaning new.

If only I can get dealers to get back to me with firm quotes.  ;D

...Just to complicate things a bit more Zero has a copyright on a new model ...

Trademark not copyright; This is not a new Taylor Swift album.

Zero FX and DSR 2022 model year may be the last products of Cypher II parts that are getting phased out. Keep this in mind?

Maybe get a Sur Ron X to hold you over 2-3 years until the next generation Zero product lineup settles out? I might even suggest Sur Ron Storm but those are not common. If you are going with EV moto you should get whatever has the most aftermarket and a healthy DIY repair community. EV moped and motorbikes from any brand will be a lot of fun to ride on trails. Spending 2-3 times more money doesn't really equal more fun on trails at 25mph, it will just be heavier and more cumbersome to transport to get to the trail.

Gotcha, since I've seen name only and not product, I guess I messed it up.  How about giving this one a look see?

By the way I use one of those hitch carriers and the beauty of electric is no clutch and no gear lever.
You just stand on the ground and use the bike's power to just ease it up the ramp.  Very easy and controllable.

Decided to go 2022 FX, want to do the same. Have a 2021 Jeep JLU. Any tips on choosing a hitch? Tongue weight doesn't seem like too much of an issue.

Sell your Jeep and buy an F-150 hybrid F-150 with pro power

I just got my carrier off Ebay.  I needed a 500lb weight limit.
Mostly you'll get what you pay for, nicer rack higher price.  Pretty much any good one should work fine.  Do look for ones that can have the ramp on either side since it lets you power the bike on and off the carrier.

Congrats on the new Zero and let us know how you like it.

Thanks much! Delivered today. Took it on a quick ride -- going to take some getting used to but all in all, awesome. Haven't been on a bike in a while so it'll be all back roads and practice trips for me for a while.
