Hello,

I am getting a new bike and I need to increase mileage on odometer to make it older. Right now it is under 1000 and the plan is to go over 5000.
What is the source of the speedometer ? ABS sensor or the encoder in the motor ?
My idea is to either:
1. rise the rear wheel to spin it in the air for some time or
2. generate ABS signal if that is the source of speed for the MBB/dashboard

The easiest would be to reprogram the MBB/dashboard with higher number, but the passwords for MBB are probably nowhere on the internet, right ?

Not sure I understand the reason to do this other than riding it for 5000 miles, like Shadow mentioned above?

Reason is the taxation system in Europe which treats bike as new until it is over 6 months old and has more than 6000km on the clock(bike is older than 6months, but only 1000km on odo). If it is as new, I must pay tax and the old owner from previous country gets a refund which he does not want to give back.
This is not evading taxes, just evading having to go through the process of refunds that the previous owner is unwilling.
And I must do it in couple of days without license plates and winter is coming 🙂

California has the same sort of regulations for used vehicles being imported from other states. They need to have 7,500 miles on the clock before they can be registered here. One of my friends bought a Buell Blast (don't ask me why  ) in Florida, which had been used as a H-D trainer with very few miles shown on the speedometer. He first tried to hook up a drill to the speedometer cable before deciding that was likely to wear out his drill before he reached 7.5K moles. He said that he was able to design some sort of electronic device that was able to change the odometer reading, which upped the mileage so that he could register the bike. But I have no idea how that was done.

I have a vague recollection (which could be wrong) that there was a code that could be punched into the display of my Zero 2012 S that would allow the mileage to be changed.  Of course such a change would be in violation of government laws.

You need to go 104.1667 mph for 48 hours (5000/48).  With an electric motorcycle, that is impossible unless you can charge while the motor is spinning at maximum speed.  Even then, it will probably overheat and shut down.

My bike went to the Zero repair shop with 17327 kms on the odometer. They replaced the controller, made some settings, and I got it back some days later with 19406 kms on the odometer. It means that they artificially added 2079 kms during this repair.
So, it should be possible to add the amount that you need, if you find a comprehensive dealer...

The technical discussion would lend itself to, does the bike increment the odometer if the rear wheel is not spinning?

There's a means to disable ABS, and then run the bike without a belt engaged to the pulley. I'm recommending against running the motor unloaded. Additionally if such a foolish action were taken it would be wise to aim a pair of box fans at the bike to increase air-cooling capacity.

What would happen to unloaded motor running at say 60mph/100kph ? The consumption would be negligible, I think it could do like 600miles/1000km even more.

I was thinking about tapping into CAN on the OBD port and supposedly there is exchange of odometer counter on the startup between MBB and dashboard (at least it was so on the previous zeros ?). Then all I have to do is fake some packets and it should update either of the units and increase the counter.
