2022 - so is the SR/F now the SR?
« on: November 04, 2021, 10:22:05 PM »

Just got a slightly confusing email about the 2022 models. From what I can tell the SR/F (with 14.4kWh battery) is now called the SR and the "new" SR/F has a 15.6kWh battery. Am I missing something? That seems a particularly confusing move.

Same, looks like the website has been updated.
The SR/F base comes with the 14.4+ the premium comes with the 15.6
Then the SR only has the 14.4+

Honestly they should have just dropped the SR/F name and done a base and premium SR

It looks like the SR has less power too. The 2022 SR/F has the same power as the existing 2020/2021 models.

If I'm reading this right, you can pay $1800 for a software upgrade to close the power gap...

Ok looks like the other difference is the SR/F & SR/S have a 6kW (7kW if you pay for software) onboard while the SR has a 3kW (3.3 with software upgrade)
The software "unlocks" are an interesting strategy...

Oh thank GOD!  The SR/S isn't available in red, so I can hold on to my savings for another year...

Interesting.. the picture of the new SR shows a 75-10 looking motor with a 75-7 label, however the specs still say 75-10. Cant tell if they made a smaller motor using the new fin design or are limiting it in software.

Since you can pay to unlock similar performance compared to the SRF I would say it’s the latter.

In the tech specs both motors are listed as 75-10 but the amperage output of the controller is 750 for the SR and 900 for the SR/F. Therefore it looks, to me, like they're software limiting the power output and top speed of the controller.

Hm, interesting... that would mean they could further restrict the model to comply with A2 licensing laws in Europe. (The original SR/F was too powerful to be allowed a restriction)

The SME controller in the 3rd gen bikes does, as a friend of mine put it, "everything the SevCon does but... way better."

It has more features, options, and is easier to program. I suspect they're just starting to let it embrace its full potential in the bikes.

As mentioned in an earlier thread, I'm now in the process of upgrading my 2020 SR/F with a ChargeTank and eMoto's double-J.  I saw the Zero announcement this morning before heading to the dealer for the major expense / major surgery of this operation, and took a pause.  I was concerned that there was the potential of my own personal Biketopia reaching fruition!  That would be a DSR/F: a dual-sport SR/F.  Where I live in Colorado, we got lotsa dirt.   :P  Seeing no DSR/F, my beloved baby is now in the Operating Room, undergoing the ChargeTank install.  The Dub-J should arrive this weekend (thanks, Scott!), for my evening pleasure of installation sometime next week.  I can't wait to see where this goes!

Zero is producing some amazing bikes, but I'd still love to see a DSR/F.  Alas, it'll be a few years before I can part with the cash to own one, given what I just did to my piggy bank.  :'(

One other thing about Zero migrating the old SR into new SR is the weight gain.   The old SR was 414 lbs according to various website.   Zero lists the new SR at 489 lbs.   A 75 lb weight gain is a lot!   Is that mainly from the charging system?   I can't believe the charge tank for the old SR weighed 75 lbs.

It's weighs 30kg more than an old SR, 20kg more than an SR with a charge tank. That's a significant amount but for that weight you do get wider tyres, more substantial suspension, and better brakes.

You also get a natty battery case with more metal passive cooling on it too, and I expect the frame is considerably stiffer.
